Mulally: New redesigned Ford Taurus coming next year

That's a pretty quick abandonment of the current design/platform... Especially for a Ford Taurus.

INteresting...I actualy like the Taurus redesign. It looks pretty good for a Taurus. Drives pretty nicely too. And now that it actually has a little bit of power you don't feel like you are driving your grandmas car anymore.

It was a Five-hundred 'redesign' and rebadge.

I agree with you as far as the attractiveness goes (in comparison to the previous Five-hundred) if that means anything.

Duh! They must really think Americans are stupid; pulling that off in the first place.

Wouldn't that be a redesign of the Fusion instead?

This isn't a new Fusion. This is a new Taurus, the car that competes with the Chrysler 300.

I suppose you're right, however, the name 'Taurus' use to be Ford's family hauler. They've really got a bunch of smart people over there dont they...

seriously, if they had any brains, then they should bring the mondeo, with out cutting down the euro content.

...and the Honda Accord since it's officially now a full-sized vehicle.

...which is what the Malibu competes with as well ("It's like a super accord" commercial)...I think the guys at GM need to differentiate their model segments a little better.

If the Taurus is priced the same as the Impala (both of which are in drastic need of a complete redesign) and they are both equivilant to an accord (also in drastic need of a redesigned exterior) in price and size...how does Chevy go around touting the Malibu as is it's contender in the battle with the Accord?

To be honest...I hope Ford fires their entire design team and promotes the Mazda design team in its place. Even when Ford 'Reinvents' itself, it always turns out bad. Ford hasn't been good since the early 70's in car design (with the exeption of the european platforms and in the US the Focus SVT...which the SVT team should deservidly get the credit for). I have a feeling the newly reinvented...again...Ford Taurus(/500/Taurus/500/whatever) will still continue to dissapoint.

Whats the chance that the new Taurus will be the Euro Mondeo?

It my dreams, it would indeed look like one, but reality might prove to be quite different...

A comment like that really has to annoy dealerships that are still trying to sell the current fiasco.
