Cadillac Provoq to replace SRX in 2009

Cadillac has big dreams for its new Provoq Concept crossover that it revealed earlier this month at the 2008 CES. According to a report by Automotive News, the Provoq is set to replace the SRX in about 2009, powered by a V6 gasoline engine. Executives are hoping that the Provoq will win buyers that the SRX mid-sized SUV never could.

“The Provoq has got to hit 60,000 or 70,000 units in sales, not the 20,000 we’re hitting with the SRX,” said Jim Taylor, Cadillac’s general manager.

I wonder how much rebates it will take to sell 70,000 units. If the SRX sold 20,000 what makes them think this will? Its a flooded market segment - but maybe the baby boomers will use social security checks to buy this.

With the hype surrounding the CTS and of course the Escalade, I don't think they'll have much trouble pushing the rest of the lineup.

Looks like it will be BMW with the X6 and Cadillac with the Provoq taking the lead in the X-Over market for the next few years unless the competition gets creative. But what will likely happen is that the followers will try to tear down these vehicles. Copy them with updated technology and say the BMW and Cadillac have not kept up with the market. These designs you see today are bold and market defining!

Looks good (my wife wants a small SUV) but if they want my business, they better price it at U.S. price in Canada now that the C$ is virtually at par with the U.S.$ -- also, they better make both an AWD and a RWD with LSD version. Magnetic ride should also be standard.
