Take ‘complete’ control of your car with your iPhone

Most remotes these days lock and unlock cars, pop-open the trunk and even let you start your car from a couple of feet away. Well Delphi’s new Wireless Vehicle Access software, which can be programmed onto an iPhone, controls almost every imaginable vehicle function. While it’s only a concept that was shown at this year’s CES, the software shows what an iPhone or Blackberry would let you do with your car.

The project came about when Delphi was working on smart key fobs that displayed an image on the fob showing if the car is locked or unlocked or which door is ajar. DaHarder, I know this is your field, I have a question, why does Apple Ipod and Iphone have almost digital quality sound (as I have read in their literature). Why not go all the way to pure digital sound? Please be gentle I am an electronic layman.

To be quite honest, the iPod (all those with dock connectors) sound pretty darned good when used in conjunction with an LOD (line-out dock) or straight out of the dock connector, but the sound quality through the headphone jack is pretty sub-par when compared directly with many other DAP units (namely Sony, Samsung, iRiver, Cowon, Meizu and the like).

The most important thing to remember is that no DAP is going to sound any better than the quality of the media files its playing.

If you want to extract the very best sound quality that any given DAP has to offer, then it's imperative that you 'up' those bit rates beyond the 'standard' 128kbs.

The iPhone is also compatible with the iPod integration factory extra on Mercedes, letting you control the entire menu (playlists, artists, songs, shuffle) from the steering wheel control and central display on the speedometer. I also use it as the only source of music in my car and it works great, plus it charges it in the process.

The iPhone is really much more than a phone and an iPod, its interface allows for expansion into things like these. A great device, possibly THE device of the decade.

not to be outdone by Audi at their own game, Apple is claiming THEY came up with this idea first???

This is a sad day for what I thought was a decent company. But I guess some do anything it takes to make the profit.
