Autocar Tests the Audi A4 2.0 TDI

So, Autocar tested the 2009 B8 Audi A4 2.0 TDI.. They came away thoroughly impressed and said the car was excellent. Gone are the soggy driving dynamics of older A4s, such as the B7, and the improved handling is a huge step forward for Audi. With Audi's Drive Select driver's can manually adjust the throttle, suspension and other handling settings to suit their driving needs. The car feels confident, and light.

Furthermore, Audi addressed the complaints of tight rear quarters fabulously. The 2008 Audi A4 is much longer than the previous version and it is also much wider. The cabin now has an airy feel to it and rear occupants will no longer be complaining about a lack of legroom or headroom. In fact, the Audi A4 has grown so much that its length approaches the A6 and it is larger than both the BMW 3-series and Mercedes-Benz C-class.

Audi knew the A4 had to be a vast improvment over the outgoing model if Audi was to realize its goal of becoming the most successful premium auto manufacturer by 2015. The A4 is by far the biggest seller and with the new driver adjustable handling, excellent dynamics and feel, and a much larger cabin that retains Audi's stellar quality, Audi has positioned itself perfectly for future success.

As a side note: Autocar tested the Audi A3 cabriolet and came away so impressed that they said the A3 cabriolet could defeat the BMW 1-series convertible for top honors in the compact executive cabriolet class.

Stay tuned because Autocar got their hands on the Audi RS6 Avant packing 580 horsepower. Tomorrow we will know if the Audi RS6 will live up to its hype as a BMW M5 and Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG slayer.

With the R8 as a halo and the A4/A5 as the bread and butter combo, Audi is poised to finally break out of its 2nd tier status in the states. I imagine the TDI engine is fantastic based on the review and having driven the current model.

The BMW 3 Series is the benchmark in this class. Not the Lexus IS, not the Infininti G (though it's close) and DEFINITELY not the Acura TL.

a real purist car would have a manual. the IS350 doesn't offer one, so therefore, the 335i takes that benchmark.

There are more powerful 2.0 TDI emgines in audi's lineup but the stupid Co2 emissions tax laws over here mean the 150hp variant of the 2.0 TDI is the most popular by far.

If i had to choose a high mileage vehicle then it will be the new AUDI 3.0 TDI or the BMW 335d.
