MB C-Class scoops Wheels Magazine's Car of the Year Award

Further highlighting the unquestionable success of the new Mercedes C-Class, Australia's Wheels magazine has just awarded the model their annual "Car of the Year 2007" award. Chosen over 20 other models after a week-long testing program, the C stood apart from its competitors thanks to "its impressive combination of standard safety features, well-judged electronic driver aids, excellent dynamic ability, ride comfort, build quality and attractive design." Other finalists for the award included the Ford Mondeo, the Mazda 2, the Volkswagen Eos and the BMW M3.

As for how they arrived at their decision, the eight-member Wheels judging panel analyzed the entire vehicle ranges of 20 different models, amounting to 46 total vehicles. Model ranges were rated as a whole, after which it was determined that every C-Class in the range shared the same "outstanding core attributes" mentioned above.

Lol...IS-F doesn't compete with the standard C, although a standard C would probably win...and secondly, The c AMG DESTROYS the IS-F.

The C-class is a much better effert than any recient new product from them,but it still has some serious new product problems.I'm sur they can work them out in a couple of years just like with the ML class.

The only publications that I've read with lots of bad things to say about the C-class are American mags. Everyone else seems to understand what a good car it is.

C-Class is a xlnt car when you condider the price point at with you can purchase one for. I hate to use the word entry level but if you must the people who are not fans of the car point to a rather sparten or cheap looking interior, i counter with what was MBZ suppose to do put the most expensive and best materials known to man kind then jack the price to over 50k, what does that get MBZ in terms of the word entry level.
Getting people in their line of car to maybe trade up or buy another C-Class MB did a nice job, just right on size, look, and overall package for the money, they can't create evrything to everybody at the expense of not selling other units that are priced higher/

Exactly. The C-Class is a lot of car for just 33K. Dont expect gold plated dashboards and diamond encrusted shift knobs. Its not gonna happen in the c-class.

BTW, I was at a car show recently and compared the famous IS interior side by side with the C class. Nothing special. Looks entry level too (because it is)

The IS interior looks more upscale than the Honda-esque interior of the new C-Class. But even disregarding this unfounded assertion, the ES, which is also "entry-level" has a more upscale interior than any and every other car in the "entry-level" sedan segment. So stop attacking Lexus.

The IS interior is over rated by people like u. There is nothing Honda-Esque about the C-Class interior but there is something Toyota-esque about Lexus interiors.

AND I never mentioned the ES. That car is in a category all by itself. Being based on a Camry,(just in case u didnt know) its able to keep costs down and there is nothing in that price category that size to compete directly with it. Its also the Ugliest Lexus right now in my opinion.

I do not care about the IS interior, but saying that it is better than the C-Class interior is not 'over-rating' it. The fact that the ES is based on a Camry (which you would not let anyone forget, even if they had amnesia) only embarrasses the interior of the C-Class even further. The ES is the best luxury-oriented entry-level vehicle, that is all I am saying. You were the one that wanted to mention Lexus.

Do some research,someone I know works at the Mercedes store and said their being towed left and right.Mercedes has nowhere to go but up though they were at rock bottom.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but a very close family member of mine is a parts and service advisor and he says that all the current models from 05 and on have significantly fewer problems. E-Class alone problems were reduced by 74%

As to YOUR made up claim that they are being towed left and right I laugh. I have never seen a broken down mercedes or one being towed where I live and there are plenty of them.

Nice car. I just wish it looked more, um, German. It looks like MB is adopting Asian styling queues, too.
