This car is simply stunning...every angle offers a visual delight...aggressive yet elegant. The steelwork on the side profile is excellent. The interior is a great extension of the exterior design...

None sense, this design is beautiful. I'm very happy to see the current 7 series be saved by this new design. I also see some of the Lexus LS lines in it, but further stretched and smoothed which make the lines look even better.

I love Muscle cars so I am digging the concept BMW's flanks!!! I love the rear as well.

The front end is where the problem is. The signature grill is too large and reveals too much of the radiator. The hood is distrating to the overall beauty of the car. Lastly the face look too squat and wide. Intersting look though.

I noticed that too- the sort of Dracula-esque cloak-like seats.

All I can say is that the interior looks like it was designed by Daniel Leibeskind, whose designs are interesting in their novelty, but are throughly strange to be inside.

The Denver Art Museum is intesting- I know people who have become sick inside of it. There are no vertical walls. The most interesting place is at the top of the main staircase looking down. The stair case, for lack of a better way to put is sort of build around a cone which has its tip in the ground. So when you look down from the top it has a sort of spiraling inward feeling, but the balcony isn't vertical. Your mind however sort of tips it that way, so you don't feel like you are looking down, it almost feels like you are looking at about 60 degrees from horizontal. The whole effect is very tunnel like, but people are walking on the stairs, so it feels like you are not experiencing the save gravitational vector.

So essentially, it feels every once in a while like you have walked into an M.C. Escher lithograph.

i just hope BMW does something about the 3series's interior and adding a little bit more dramatic lines to the overall exterior wouldnt hurt

I say we should wait until the next 7 series comes out. This CS really shows how the next large sporty sedan should look like.

One last thing I really expect from BMW is that they should go back to the driver oriented cockpit design.

The current 3, 5 and 7 interiors should go away soon.

I miss the center consoles angled towards the driver. This puts the passenger in their place! Seriously, I miss the E30 and to some extent the E36 interiors.

Bangle had driven me away from the Roundel in recent years, but I quickly remembered I have never driven BMW's for the way they look!

So it looks like future BMW's will be controlled by not one, but four iDrive knobs, interesting. But I like the styling, very bold and agressive, yet luxurious at the same time. I like the 4 door sports coupe look.

I love the look...i think the eyelids on the headlights are kinda stupid though.

That's what stands out the most to me. I first noticed this new trend (I guess its becoming a trend) on the Saturn Aura and the 08 C-Class. Looks good on the C, looks ok here.

The side profile looks awesome, streched out, reminds me of the Quattroporte.

This does look like those suspected photoshops from months back with the smushed-in pug face. Looks like the "shark-inspried" facia on the new Lancer.

I'm glad BMW chooses to go against the grain when it comes to their future concepts. I am so tired of people crying about the Bangle designs. I am glad BMW looks at what cars might look like in the future. Everyone wants cars to look predictable and all look the same, why? i don't see why a design shouldn't disturb you a bit, make you think, or ponder, make you visualize and give you a mental voyage almost every time you look at it. Who wants to look at a car once and say, it's nice, its elegant, it's a great step up from the car it replaces, end of story, hop in and drive, isn't this a website for people "enthused" about cars. If you want your predictable designs, go stand in a Ford dealership and bask in it's boredom, even Ford is starting to step up design wise to. Bangle has changed car designs forever, he has taken the adventurous, exotic, awe inspiring characteristics often associated with Ferraris and Lambos and such, and brought them to the mainstream, have you heard the guy talk about the designs of BMW, have you heard how the cars articulate the very intelligent perspective BMW pursues in their design language, when was the last time you saw an Audi designer on youtube chatting about their design concepts, or a Merc or Lexus designer, hardly, by the way all these other car companies make great looking cars, but cars should be something more at times, and that's what BMW sees, they don't always hit the nail on the head 100% of the time, but my do they come close. In the case of the X6 who cares about function, it can seat 4 people and it's a new segment of cars, think progressive, this is not the middle ages, i thought cars would have been flying by now, but i'll settle for what we got now.

There's no doubt that this is a very handsome shape, and could easily serve as the basis for a very striking BMW 'design language', but...

Those headlights really need to be re-worked.

The 'clouded' upper portion of the headlight assembly seem very out-of-place, and have a 'cut-line' that meets up with no other 'character-line' found anywhere else on the vehicle's bodywork or grill... Very Amateuristic.

Additionally, very much like the current 5-Series, the headlights have all the visual appeal of a cheap whore wearing far too much eyeshadow, and a sleepy one at that!

Great design, as opposed to fleeting fashion, should never resort to such 'frivolously trendy' visual elements.

Its a great design direction from BMW. I think that BMW's designs are very avant garde, and many people who hate BMWs do not understand that. I think BMW's designs under Bangle was too advance for its days. If its so ugly and bad, then why do others copy it?

kaiser: I know exactly what you mean, and designs are not going to get a "wow" reaction from 100% of the people, but I think that for those who understand the designs, it becomes designs that you can live with, rather than ones you hate. thats my point, but I know what you are saying. I was very lukewarm with bangle's designs, but I have just come to accept it as a move in a different direction from the status quo, if you will.

The world is changing, what subprime has shown is that when prices get so ahead of the curve consumers don't turn off they just can't aford the prices anymore. Look for new generation cars to be lean and mean in MPG and bang for the buck. Their will always be the well healed who will want luxury cars but for the people who thought buying a million dollar home with arm mortages and now realize they were playing a fools game.
The same will and is happening with MFG like BMW and Lexus, leasing a car for $600 or more a month for the middle class is going away, the world will see more normal pricing of cars that are efficent and in touch, the luxury only MFG with cars 50k or more will see a major downturn in the future. Housing told us not evrybody can live a millioaires life and the same is true with auto's?

historically, ultra luxury items tend to be recession-proof. the very rich will continue to spend no matter how much the masses are suffering.

'entry-level' luxury products suffer during times like these. products that are more expensive than necessary for ordinary folks, but not quite good enough for the very rich. Items that middle class people buy to associate themselve with a more glamorous lifestyle.

Things like $200 Coach bags don't sell during a recession. $5,000 Louis Vuitton bags will sell regardless.

Following this logic, it is brands like Lexus and Infiniti that will suffer, not stalwarts like Mercedes-Benz and BMW. Typically, high end luxuries sell at a steady pace, regardless of surrounding economic conditions.

You are right, the middle class is dissapearing. In the future it's either ultra-cheap, or ultra high-end.

The CS concept is stunning from every angle.

We will have to wait to see how these design cues are incorporated when the new 7-series makes it debut. And that day cant come soon enough!!

To me, The new 7 is the most anticipated car of the year, cant wait.

Little touches here and there other than the big picture. The headlights have little BMW insignias cut out of the side of the projectors. VW already puts little VW logos on the headlamp bulb covers.

Aside from that, I like the all touch screen windows and locks. Very new with things like the iphone and my LG Venus. My only concern for that technology in a car in anyplace other than the HVAC and stereo would be the slip up of touching it with your elbow or by mistake.

I had a good laugh at this one too. BMW has said time and time again that they don't get a lot of toyo....uh, lexus customers, and vice versa; there IS no 'pressure'. When you add in the fact that lexus is put on top thanks to two cars that are rebadged toyotas, it becomes clearer which is considered prestigous, and which is considered near-luxury.

BMW is the company that's benchmarked, imitated and flat-out copied by the competition. If there's any 'pressure' it's to stay far enough ahead to give the others something to copy next.

DO you have any idea if this will make production in non-7 Series form? I would rather not drive a luxobarge, but the idea of a "four-door coupe" appeals. I don't need a ton of space.

BMW has already said they are building the concept CS as their range topping sedan.

If they can make their cars look like this then sure that will be great. But the other companies are also going to improve their design and will come up with stunning new designs as well. Audi's new design philosophy embodied in the R8 is striking and awesome at the least. Also if jaguar finally decides to make their cars look like the CXF then the jaguars will also look astounding, actually to me the CXF looks better than the BMW CS. So clearly to think that BMW will dominate the industry in terms of design is a bit overextrapolated statement. And also think about Lexus LFA design being boiled down to their smaller design.

Jaguar CXF looks better than the BMW CS.

The key letter there is the "C."

I love the new XF, but the production version can't hold a candle to this BMW concept.

1] No such GT-R resemblance.
This came out came out even before the pictures of the GT-R. And it takes time for both to be build, so unless BMW and Nissan spyied each other of years, no such resembalnce.

2] The tail lights are from the 5er streched in an L shape (typical BMW).

3] Grill, rember the Z8 or its inspiration the 507 (with its big wide grille and shark nose look japanese fantic boys and girls ?!).
The new pedestrian laws in Europe means the nose must be higher and "bulky-er" and to resolve cooling the automakers are going (back) to the big bad grilles. Everyone's doing it, BMW, MB, Audi, Peugeot, Maserati, Aston etc.

I like direction of the CS concept and where it’s headed. Once again BMW is setting the bar for a new generation of design. As criticized by many, the exterior Bengal design is now being replicated by quite a few manufacturers. So while they perfect their own Bengal design, BMW is moving on. I'm most excited about the interior. Looks like Bimmer is going back to the E46 design where the driver has been given majority of the controls, without completely isolating the passenger. We shall see…still too early to tell though.

Definitely NOT my cup of tea. I must be one of the many that BMW chose to leave behind when they adopted a styling that is more appealing to a younger audience. At the ripe old age of 48, I look forward to getting a Bentley Continental GTC, and a Gallardo (as the toy).

the VAST majority of bmws sold are the 3ers. so naturally, the company's whole style emphasis is to snag as many boy racers as they can.
