Early look: 2009 Audi TT-RS

308hp in the high end model is a little disappointing. The "regular" TT has 250 right? And how powerful was the TT-S going to be again? Three models separated by 58hp isn't much spread considering the price jumps typically associated with S and RS models. I would have thought they'd get the RS up to at least 350 to stay competitive with the M Coupe and Roadster and SLK55 AMG.

This high end model seems to be underpowered already. The 350Z and the G35 have more power. And the audi is more expensive.
Audi engines need some balls.

Please, explain to me how the S4 is underpowered? It has 44 more horsepower than the BMW 335xi.

And unlike BMW, Audi is obviously being smart and going the low weight route. This car will be light, fast, fuel efficient and very fun to drive. Think "M Coupe CSL."

This article is all wrong. Audi is going to release the TT-RS with anywhere from 350-365 horsepower.

All Audi RS models have much higher horsepower than their "S" counterparts. Look at the 354 hp of the S4 compared to the 420 hp of the RS4.

The 450 horsepower of the S6 versus the 580 of the RS6.

The Audi TT-S already has 295 horsepower.

The TT-RS is going to have at least 350 horsepower.

The TT-S has 272hp.

Some of you people are just so thick-headed.

Is it not obvious, what they're doing here? Instead of one-upping the competition with ridiculous power outputs, the TT-S/RS are spurring a new lightweight revolution at Audi.

Agreed, the power wars are getting rediculous and have largely run their course with new enviromental legislations. Lighter cars with good power to weight ratios and which provide better fuel economy are the way forward in my opinion.

I would actually rather have a 220 hp car with lightweight construction (~2500 lbs) than a 350 hp car that weighs 3600 lbs.

AND--I just realized that this is only a 2.3L. That is IMPRESSIVE. Wow!

Usually I don't get into these wars but neither side is really comparing apples to apples.

BMW's 335 engine is turbocharged. Audi's 3.2L is not...nor should we compare the 4.2L V8 with the 335. Audi's 3.2 should be compared to the engine in the 328...which has only 230hp, in part due to less displacement and an older engine than Audi's 3.2.

If you compare V8's they come out pretty close. BMW uses less displacement but it's also a couple years newer than Audi's V8.

It's all a moot point really. These flame wars are going to continue no matter how much sense I try to convey.

Oh, I am a little disappointed by the TT-S and R/RS offerings but the output that the engines that they are using are pretty good. Can't beat the TT looks either...if I could fit a hockey bag in it I'd think about it. Maybe I should retire and play golf...

Actually, the V8 BMW is using right now is a 4.8L unit... or, it has 0.6L more displacement than the Audi V8, which translates to only 10 more horsepower in the 550i/650i/750i, and it only equals the 350hp Audi V8 in X5 4.8i form.

The A4 3.2 competes with the European-market BMW 330i. Yet another indicator that Audi doesn't care that much about the US market... whatever. The 330i and A4 3.2 have IDENTICAL power outputs. If you can't admit that they are direct competitors, you need help.

The BMW 550i is pretty much obsolete. I would personally buy a 535i over it any day of the week. The A6 4.2 has a good advantage over the 3.2, and Audi's 4.2L V8 has many won more awards than BMW's 4.8.

I'm not sure what the BMW competition is in Europe, but the A4 2.0T crushed the 32x5i in a 2006 comparison test (AWD sports sedans, R&T March 2006) in terms of fun-to-drive, style, acceleration and braking/slalom, if I remember everything. The new A4 2.0T will have a power increase, keeping it competitive with the 328xi. BMW's inline six, while fantastic with power, isn't so hot in "28i" form. It is inferior to Audi's turbo four.

I was referring to the v8 in the new m3. 4L vs Audi's 4.2L. But ya, wow, if you compare it to the 4.8L then there's no competition. I'm not sure why we take idiotic comments so seriously...ie from amazingbimmer.

btw, wow that's a lot of money for a x5 but i'm also not in tune with suv pricing...just seems high. why didn't you go for the q7? or the v10 touareg?
