Photo Renderings: 2010 BMW 5-Series

The current fifth-generation BMW 5-Series, or the BMW E60, has seen little changes since its debut. When BMW unveiled the car in 2004, critics and fans initially gave it mixed reviews. The controversial exterior design (done by none other then Chris Bangle and Adrian van Hooydonk), raised many eyebrows with its sharply cornered angles, and headlights and tail lamps that ran into the body. Finally time has come for a redesign and we have the latest photo renderings based on the camouflaged 5-Series that was spotted earlier this month in Munich.

Our renderings reveal that the design of the next-generation BMW 5-Series has been seriously toned-down and won’t be as radical as the current generation. We’ll see major hints of the CS Concept on the front end(which is supposedly where BMW design is headed) with a large grille and more rounded headlights, while tail lamps will be stretched out to resemble those of the 3-Series.

Engine specs wise, BMW is expected to carry over the current lineup including the new 3 liter turbocharged engine. Even though the current 4.8 liter V8 already produces 360hp, there is rumor of a...

I agree that the car raises a few eyebrows but my eyebrow is raised because BMW still has no side molding to protect against door dings in parking lots.

Side Moldings are over-rated. Since the height of the moldings vary form car to car, their effectiveness is minimal. I see plenty of cars with door dings below and above the side moldings (including my own!). Side Moldings are only effective if you park next to a car that is same model as the one you are driving.

Side moldings look tacky. I'm glad that they are gone :-)

The rendering looks better to me than the current car. The grill is a bit big though. I hope they do some interior work on it though. Not a bad photoshop. I wonder how close it is to the real deal though.

#1) "1995e34", i strongly disagree that this is a weak photoshop job as you suggest. i think this is an exceptional photoshop job or at least as good as any other photoshopped rendering - maybe just not as imaginative as you would've hoped?

#2) i agree this rendering shows a more attractive version of the current 5 and that it does incorporate just enough of the CS Concept design cues to make this a plausible design for the next gen 5er. but if 001 is saying "it's not likely", i take that to mean the man with inside scoop knows something the rest of us are not quite privy to.

#3) i'm sure bmw won't disappoint with the next gen 5er. the timing of the next gen 5er will come just as the 1 will have taken the US by storm. viewing 1ers as future owners of the 5, i bet bmw will want to make sure they really have something to whet their appetites over.

That's nothing but the current 5-series photoshopped with the front end from a 760Li and the rear tail lights from the CS concept.

Looks more like the evolutionary successor of the previous 5-series rather than the current model. Similar to the way the current 911 seems to be more closely descended from the 993 rather than the 997.

I miss the last 5 series, it looked way better than the current. This rendering seems to have some of the 6 series in it with the tails and lamps. Gets my approval cause the 6 is a gorgeous car to watch roll by. I have seen a few M6's around too, man that is just total sex on wheels.

I don't know about you guys, but I find this photoshop very elegant, athletic and refined. It's a superb evolution of the current Bangle designs, incorporating a "just right" amount of the CS concept's design cues without stealing the concept's entire body (that's reserved for the upcoming BMW four-door coupe).

It probably won't look a lot like this, though.

Add me to the group of people who actually love the E60. I know the cool and 'in' thing to do is hate on Bangle designs, but I've loved it since first sight. I'm sure the F10 will look even better.

Definitely an improving from the current gen 5 Series for sure. But the only thing is that the rearlight look very similar to the current Honda Civic.

I think I would be shocked if the NEW 5 wont have flame surfacing. Its like a compulsory element of the car. It needs to look sharp, just like the current one.

I saw a facelifted 5er today, and I totally loved the rear light LEDs.
