First Look At The Toyota FJ Crusier Unlimited?
Dear 001,

I have been visiting your site for the last 6 months and greatly enjoy reading the material. Since I am in the outdoor publishing business (I own Sporting Classics, a high-end hunting and fishing magazine), I am interested in vehicles for sportsmen.

 

I absolutely loved Toyotas FJ concept. They dropped the ball however, when they let their designers create a vehicle that ignores the FJ's original intent and today's sportsmen's needs, namely 4 real doors and a view out.

 

On behalf of sportsmen everywhere, and in a effort to influence them, would you allow me to use one of your recent photos, alter it a bit in PhotoShop, and send it back to you to show them what they should have done in the first place?

 

I know this is a bit brazen, but I'd love to see the response you'd get on your web site.

 

I want no credit or money. I already own three of their vehicles and only want to influence them.

Nice work...we've already let the world know months ago that we think it is already in development, seeing the success of the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited.

It makes a lot of sense to us.

Throw in the Highlander Hybrid Powertrain or a really efficient diesel and we're talking another huge hit for them.

This is exactly the vehicle that I like and I would buy one in a heartbeat if it were not for my wife unwilling to be seen in it and the fact that I cannot buy a second parking spot where I currently live.

A little "choppy," but nice!!! Toyota, as with the other makes I'm sure, has employees who scan the blogs. So this kinda post could be really beneficial.

Current FJ tries too hard to be a Hummer in its styling. Of course the original FJ existed before Hummer which is why I feel it should stayed true to its roots. Is not as capable as Hummer but it is fairly capable off-roader. Only traditional part to the new FJ is the 2 door configuration. Good to see Toyota FJ following Hummer and Jeep Wrangler with a 4 door version.

There is NOTHING Hummer in the FJ styling, it is pure OG Landcruiser, staying very true to its roots. And it would not be following anybody with 4 doors, as the OG Landcruiser also came with 4 doors for many years.

And not to mention that it will out perform any of the Chevy based Hummers out there by A LOT!!!! The H1 is the only serious off roader from Hummer!

Don't personally like the FJ but I can see how SUV people would. A 4 door version is not attractive to me just because it looks huge and seems like it would be very hard to see out of.

I like the old one much better, and I wish we got more of an 'evolved' version (similar to the way the Wrangler evolved).

The only real downside here is the increase in wheel base, which hurts off-road capability.

I like how it is called an "unlimited". Copying Jeep. That thing is fugly, why wouldnt you just buy a 4 door wrangler and I bet you would save a ton of money. The interior is cheap, all toyotas are cheap. Hasnt anyone figured that out? Toyotas have no off road qualities with their crappy IFS suspensions.

The wheel base on this chop is too long, shorten it and let the rear door curve around the rear wheel well - will look proportionate. Theres something about this FJ that makes me want to get the bare-bones version w/ the black donuts and a stick...

Exactly what they should have done! Gets away from that retro military/gangster look of the jeep and hummer AND you can take the whole family without feeling like your driving around in some antiseptic living room.
