Am I surprised.......NO! Porsche does everything well. Not the fastest, but for quality, feel, and overall performance, it is something to behold. Gonna hug my Porsche right now =)

What Porsche 911 being the best automotive in the world! God i am struck with lightning. So what will happen to the mind bogglingly brilliant Ferrari F430 Scuderia? Or even the new 599 GTB? This award should have undoubtedly gone to the F430 Scuderia, i mean Porsches can only dram of building a car like that, the 911 is just a frog, that it actually looks like, in front of the mightly Ferrari.

Yes but your talking about the best overall car.The Scuderia is a driver,track focused sports car that is really not for everyday use. The 911 has duel personality. It can be used as a track car or for shopping.Also it has fine build quality,reasonable gas mileage for such high performance,reasonable luggage capacity,room for children in the back seats,easy to see out of,comfortable on the highway. Anotherwords all the qualities that a world car should have.The Ferrari is a car for a weekend fling.

Love the 911 Cabrio...I am trying to figure out how to buy one and keep my Mercedes too. I might just settle for a few T shirts a couple of hats and a keychain. I priced the one I want out and its like 135K. C4S cabrio with the power kit and ceramic brakes etc. Somebody loan me a hundred thousand bucks.

whats the difference between a convertible, cabriolet, and roadster anyway? must a cabriolet have 4 seats and a roadster 2 seats? can a convertible be either 2 or 4 doors, whereas the others only 2 doors? totally off here? - or are there other differences?

I actually know the answer - if one wants to be proper about it, traditionally a Roadster does not have a proper weather proof roof, that was what convertibles were for.
A Convertible/Drophead coupe must have a convertible roof and any number of doors and a Cabriolet can only have 2 doors, and must have a removable or retractable rear roof and a rear window.

Nowadays though convertible is the more common name for any retractable roof car, but Mercedes offers the modern examples of these words.
The SLK is a roadster (not really but the name has changed to simply mean a 2 seat sporty convertible)
The SL is a convertible.
The CLK is a cabriolet.

What could possibly be the difference between the SL and the SLK, Rupert? That doesn't make sense.

The SL has miniature rear seats, and is bigger. It's too big and luxurious to be a roadster.

Actually, I just did something that didn't occur to me before, and visited the MBUSA website (as I recalled that they sparse out their models by body type). Apparently 'they' consider a cabriolet to be a type of convertible (the CLK is a cabriolet), and a roadster to be distinct from a convertible (the SL and SLK are both roadsters).

This leads me to think that roadsters are two door 'convertibles' with only two 'usable' seats and cabriolets are two door convertibles. That leaves us to figure out what a standard convertible is, and I guess it means that the only required feature is that of a removable roof, such that convertibles can be either two or four doors???

Also, interesting info on the fact that roadsters are not, traditionally, meant to weather the weather. This reminds me of certian one off cars and concepts such as the Ferrari Superamerica - though, i think that car was in fact weather proof... Hmm...

Ferrari 550/575 Barchetta is a true Roaster - just a temporary roof that isn't very weatherproof.
I still don't understand why Ferrari called that car a "little boat".

thanks rupert! that's exactly the model i was referring to. got it confused w/ the superamerica which had a retractable glass hardtop (hence, 'more' weatherproof than the ragtop). btw... when i think of roadster i almost always think ragtop (first car comming to mind: BMW Z3). guess post r170 mb slk and lex sc, hardtops qualify as well. it's probably all a marketing thing anyway! btw, check out this photo: simply stunning! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:550Bar.JPG. definately one for my '94 s600v, '95 850csi, '98 993 turbo s, '99 s600v, '02 z8 (another true roadster) dream list! best.

The SL doesn't have rear seats. It just has a little shelf behind the seats, like the Audi R8.

You're right about the length, though: the SL is about a foot and a half longer than the SLK.

Well it's not a convertible, so it's unlikely to win the "Best convertible" title.
