World's fastest street legal BMW
The world’s fastest street-legal BMW isn’t some fancy sports coupe or slippery aerodynamic marvel. The vehicle is actually a sedan, albeit a highly modified M5 sedan. The record breaker is the G-Power Hurricane M5 sedan and it reached a top speed of 225mph (360km/h) during high speed testing at Germany’s Papenburg speedoval over the weekend.

Papenburg speedoval is a 12.3km loop with a 49.7 degree banked surface. The design means there’s zero side forces subjected to the car up to speeds of 250mph (402km/h). According to official testers, the car reached the speed whilst in 7th gear and was relying on a longer differential. Its maker claims the modified M5 could is good for over 250mph but poor weather conditions (slight rain and snow) on the day hampered further testing.

because there has to be some limit between sacrificing performance with fuel efficiency or vise versa.

There's a lot of factors that cannot be ignored when building a street legal performance car which I'm sure you know this yourself.

Aftermarket tunners can only hope to make business by attracting those who want extreme performance while cutting corners with warranty, fuel efficiency, ride, etc.

To be able to make any car more efficient you'd basically have to put a smaller engine, smaller lighter wheels and rims, design the front less aggressive for better aerodynamics, etc...who would want to pay for this type of work? why buy the M5 in the first place? and would making your car more efficient make up for the extra money you spent on everything else?

I hope they realize that when you reach speeds that are that fast the amount of drag and engine torque required to even go one more mph just increases exponentially.

go to youtube and look for the 1422hp m3 running 7.83 1/4 mile. by the way the supra is one hell of a car though. I love it even though I am a BMW fan. but I guess when you have a great inline 6 to work with it is expected. inline 6 engines have 7 main bearings on the crank versus only 5 on a v8. you do the math less cylinders more bearings = less stress per bearing. you have a bearing between every rod versus a bearing between every twop rods on a v8. when was the last time you heard of an inline 6 throwing a rod? why do you think most tractor trailers use inline 6 engines. oh well I'm babbling.
