Cadillac's New 3 Series Fighter Might Be Called The ATS

Now these Cadillac names are getting out of hand are starting to sound like government agencies.

I've long grown tired of these 'Alpha/Numeric' naming schemes... Seriously:

If -

CTS = Catera Touring Sedan

STS = Seville Touring Sedan

DTS = DeVille Touring Sedan,

Then What The Heck Does ATS Stand For...

Just Give The Darned Things Real Names Already!

Alphanumeric names became popular because the consumer associated them with high profile luxury cars (BMW, MB) because when they were first in the USA American (and Japanese) cars actually had real names. Good ones, too. I think the only company it worked against was Acura, mainly because, the Legend and Vigor were better in their time than the RL and TL is respectively.

Bob...listen very closly.

You know cars. We know you know cars. Especially European cars.

No follow me here Bob...the Epsilon II platform is a decent platform, being used by such models as opel and saab. However those models are completly different than MB, Audi and BMW. If you are designing the Cadillac lineup to compete with the best Europeans, you cannot use a FWD platform and hope to be in the same ball park.

You are drawing a distinct line in the sand by doing this. What you are essentiall saying is that the CTS and above will compete with the Germans, the BTS and below will compete with lesser vehicles. With BMW bringing over the 1 series and MB doing the same shortly...both with RWD platforms, you are at a distinct disadvantage competing against you key target brands.

So again, tread carefully Bob. Because by making one area of a brand name cheap you can end up giving the impression that the entire brand is cheap. You have a good cheap car (the malibu) built off that platform already. You don't need to bring Cadillac down to that level.

It would be a shame to destroy Cadillacs name again after it has just been reborn from the ashes, just to spite congress and the CAFE standards.

Sort of like cutting off your nose to spite your face.
