Rendering of new Audi A4 Alllroad

The Audi Allroad, based on the mid-sized A6, is essentially a jacked up version of the standard wagon with protective plastic side cladding and a quattro AWD system. The car is designed for those individuals who want off-road capability but aren’t willing to upsize to full-on SUV. To expand its product portfolio, Audi plans to launch a new Allroad model based on the recently launched B8 A4.

this isn't a bad idea, works for people in the NW and NE, but audi also sold an a6 allroad wagon, but it was gone in the US for 05. now I think audi is going at it again trying to rival the xc70 and outback. this isn't a bad idea though.

Let us not forget that the A6-based Allroad was actually an equally capable offroad vehicle as most of the utility vehicles with clunky 4wd systems (Explorer sand Grand Cherokees, etc) on the market, and was a vastly better performer on-road. It did, however, have a twin-turbo engine that made for expensive and frequent fill-ups and tune-ups.

A A4 with greater ground clearance and a stump-pulling diesel might appeal to many people around the globe, but i doubt it would appeal to many folks in the USA. Americans have been eating marketing for "crossover" tall wagons for years now, so they are drooling for a Q5 or Q7 instead. What a shame...
