FoMoCo focuses more on Ford and Lincoln, Mercury being left behind
Jim Farley, Ford Motor Company’s marketing chief said that Mercury’s role is changing as the company concentrates more on Ford and Lincoln models.

“Its role is changing, but we’re not going to compromise Mercury,” Farley said Wednesday in an interview with Bloomberg at the Chicago Auto Show. “No doubt Lincoln and polishing up the Blue Oval,” the symbol of the Ford brand, “is absolutely our priority.” He didn’t elaborate about Mercury.

In dinner meeting with the press on January 8th, Ford’s CEO said...

umm...so they are polishing up the BO. Here's an idea, and I and thousands of others have only voiced it a million times over. You want to boost your brand, then import some European Fords, or make them here. The Fusion and NEW Focus (LOL) are not running so hot right now. The Edge is a nice car but you need to do more instead of letting Mazda take all of your Euro cars and sell them here (3, 5).

Once you get someone at FoMoCo to actually plug a computer into the internet (call your cable company, they can set you up), and they go online to see what people are saying about the American vs. European Ford vehicles, maybe you will then get a clue as to what the Americans would like.

HEY, ON THE FORD SITE THEY DO HAVE A BLOG GOING ALL THE TIME MUCH LIKE THIS ONE WHENEVER A NEW CAR & CONCEPT IS HIGHLIGHTED, I HAVE READ SOME OF THEM & THE CONCEPTS ARE THE ONES MUST BLOGGERS WANT FOMOCO to build them, if you go on there & read the pots it will give you a clue how the posters are thinking.

as i said it is on the site rather than one like this, so the suits havjng a look at the posts have to know what customers want, but for same reason just don't deliver the goods?

“Its role is changing, but we’re not going to compromise Mercury,” Farley said.

-- you mean, any further than you already did, Farley???

Mercury has no credible selling feature whatsoever. If you want a good Ford car, you buy a Mazda. If you want a gas guzzling truck, you buy a blue oval Ford. Now that Aston and Jaguar are gone, everything else is just a rebadge or an antiquated carryover.

Someone suggested long ago that Ford needed to axe Mercury and Lincoln. All it needs are four or five brands:

1) Mazda - economical but sporty cars
2) Ford - trucks only
3) Volvo & Jaguar - luxury cars, each with very distinct style and attributes
4) Aston Martin - supercars

Unfortunately, FoMoCo is trying to play the rebadge game to keep blue oval cars, Lincoln, and Mercury alive -- a total waste of time and money.

Personally the only way that I can see Mercury staying is by redefining what the brand is for, whether it be bringing european models here to the US or some other niche that isn't there. GM has taken that with pontiac and saturn with their global platforms.. Maybe it's a cue for Ford to do something like that without diluting what their current market is. Lincoln has been keeping their heads up in the market especially with their new offerings. I think at this point of all the brands that they have Mazda and Lincoln are doing okay, Ford's not doing as bad but they still have a ways to go, but Mercury is sinking and Volvo, needs something to spruce up that brand a little more, because they aren't doing very well.

GMH aus, are doing theLHD export carsright this minuite,& ford have said that the new falcon RWD global platform will be under the lincolns , mustangs & maybe even a new crown victoria sized luxury car, looking at the lincoln MXT concept, which i think is based on the ford flex one, is a very stunnig vehicle, maybe Mercury can pick up the new Mondeo & nwe face lifted euro focos & festa, with the New Kuga coming shortly, they can catter for the fun side of FOMOCO with the emphesis on sports models with go!!!!!!!!!
