Overweight less likely to use a seatbelt

Last month a study found that on average seat widths and the thickness of their padding in cars hadn’t changed much over the past ten years despite increases in the size of the average driver’s waistline over the same period. This is also the case with seatbelts. In fact, federal standards for the length of a seatbelt in countries like the U.S. date back four decades and only require that belts are able to accommodate at most a 215-pound man.

Some carmakers do offer bigger belts or extenders but many don’tt because of concerns about effectiveness and liability

I think what's worse is that only 83% of normal sized ppl wear seatbelts. That means 17% arent and if they're are that stupid they deserve to get what's coming to them in a serious accident.

Lose* I can definitely see America trying to accommodate the heavy every time I go shopping. Im a medium size, and find the mediums getting bigger and bigger, sometimes I opt for a small. In the european stores I am a large and its much easier to shop there, clothes fit great around the waist.

My dad just got back from Wisconsin, brought me a jumper in medium size...massive on me, in Europe I'm always a medium or large, but apparently not in the US.
And I know it's a well beaten drum, but he commented on the huge numbers of over-weight people. One guy he saw had 2 main courses, 3 large coke refills, and brownies. For lunch. He of course was monstrously fat.

With the exception of the tired rhetoric about the IS250, this was actually a pretty funny post!

Agent 001, If I provide you with the code that will block JoshLexus4Ever's comments if he says anything about an IS250 or a Lexus, will you implement it immediately!?!

JoshLexus4Ever, what the hell is taking your dad's car so long to arrive!?! The demand for them is not that great, thus I see plenty on the lot at the lexus dealership here!

To all of you idiots who keep mentioning americans being fat and over weight, if you'd do a little more research, you'd find that americans, in general, are larger than people in most every other country; it's not JUST because we have a lot fat people.

Do it by BMI (proportion of weight to height) and Americans are still the fattest nation on earth.

BMI Charts are BS. I'm 5'8 and 190lbs, but can run a 13 minute - 2 mile; the BMI chart says I'm a fatty, but my run time would say otherwise.

In a perfect world, the BMI chart would make sense.

BMI = Body Mass Index, it doesnt measure performance. You could be a great performer yet be over the ideal BMI. Being heavier than perfect doesnt make u any worse of an athlete. 5'8 and 190lbs is a little on the chubby side.

Yes, I realize it doesn't measure performance. My point is, is that the BMI chart is hardly a gauge for anything more than sightliness.

5'8 and 190lbs. looks chubby on paper, but I'm actually pretty slender looking.

Any weight extreme is a curse. My BMI is 15.7- it has become a nightmare to find clothes that fit because I am thinner than a majority of supermodels. I am not anorexic either. It is reltively simple to find 28 inch waist jean (that is not my waist size either- my waist, the smallest part of my torso, is above my belly button and is depending, 22-23 inches. Men usually are not built in such a manner) It is exceptionally difficult to find a 28 inch waist with a 38 inch inseam.

It has become so bad that I have taken to having my dress shirs bespoke. I also took a Prada sport coat of mine in there and realized that between the extensive tailoring of my less than ready-to-wear clothes, it behooves me to simply start having them made. It's chaper too The Prada sportcoat with the tailoring is slighlty more expenisve than having a sport coat made- an dout of Holland and Sherry fabric no less.

15.7 is seriously underweight...

I used to be 5'9 and weigh 132 before I started working out. I would eat like theres no tomorrow and never gain the weight or get fat. Even since I started working out (I go to the gym no less than 4 times a week) I gained about 20 pounds. My advice to you is if the clothes dont fit you, get bigger to fit into them. Taking weight gainer helps. It was very hard at first but Im happy with the results. If 2 days go without me going to the gym I start to get antsy. lol

"15.7 is seriously underweight..."

You don't have to tell me twice my parents remind me of it habitually. How small: I am 6' 2.5" and 124 lbs. I don't look anorexic...I am just tall with a small build.

I most certianly don't need to be any thinner though.

I love being svelt- I think the combination of that, and the fact that I have a very deep voice intrigues people. I could be wrong maybe it is something else- my father accused me of having a face and eyebrow lift last I went home- maybe they are thinking I am a freak. Facelift never happened by the way- I just believe in taking care of myself- through La Mer facial products.

6'2.5" and 124 lbs is NOT healthy. I dont think I have ever seen anyone like that, ever. Dont tke it from me, you should seek medical advice just to be sure of what youre saying.

It's healthy believe me- I've been to more than one doctor about it. My parents have issued threats about throwing me in special hospitals, but no doctor would tell them that I am unhealthy- minus my high-normal blood pressure. I don't look unhealthy.

My weight does fluctuate. 124 was the last I checked. It depends on how busy I am. The busier I am the less I weigh.

So...so far cdoke I know you are a 6'2.5" guy who weighs 124 pounds, with a deep voice with an accent like Aunt Mame, doesn't work and who drives a Jaguar and lives in...Denver?
