2008 VW Wolfsburg Edition Jetta 2.0T Coming To US

Volkswagen of America,Inc. today announced the Wolfsburg Edition Jetta 2.0T. Volkswagen will produce approximately 12,500 of these special edition models. This new version Jetta 2.0T follows last year’s highly successful Wolfsburg Edition Jetta 2.5 L.

Staying true to the Wolfsburg Edition heritage, the Wolfsburg Jetta 2.0T will offer customers a value priced version of the sporty and spacious Jetta sedan, equipped with the highly acclaimed four-cylinder turbo-charged engine that produces 200 horsepower and 207 ft-lbs. of torque. Each special edition Jetta 2.0T includes unique “Wolfsburg Edition” badging on both front quarter panels. The Wolfsburg Edition Jetta 2.0T features 17-inch alloy wheels, leatherette seats, and is available in the following color schemes; Reflex Silver, Black, Salsa Red, and Platinum Gray.

Like the rest of the Jetta model line, the Wolfsburg Edition comes standard with many safety features. Content that includes: six standard airbags, a crash optimized front end, and anti-intrusion side door beams. For additional safety, two rear side airbags are also available as an option. The Wolfsburg Edition Jetta 2.0T also comes with an array of vehicle control safety features. These features include a four-wheel ABS anti-lock braking system, Electronic Brake-pressure Distribution, Hydraulic Brake Assist, Electronic Stabilization Program, and Anti-Slip Regulation. The Wolfsburg Edition Jetta 2.0T also comes standard with an electro-mechanical power steering system for added control.

The Wolfsburg Edition Jetta 2.0T is value priced at $20,875 with a six-speed manual transmission, and $21,950 with an optional six-speed DSG automatic transmission.

Does VW care abou this market? VW has not had a winner since the previous generation Jetta and Passat. Oh how the mighty have fallen. The current VW product line is so weak, the dealers are dying a slow death with noe relief in sight.

The Rabbit and the base Jetta are probably a pretty good deal.This Wolsburg edition looks to be one as well with a 200HP turbo engine. Once you get over 22 grand no Golf,Rabbit or Jetta are a good value.I don't think any with options should be over 25 grand. The exception would be the R32. But that's over priced at 35 grand. With options that car should be 29 grand max. For 35 grand you can get a base 135I or loaded 128I.

This isn't anything new. I've seen these models for almost a month. And VW HQ has moved to Va in the DC metro area.

GIVE IT NEW RIMS. That's pretty much the one thing that's holding it back in the styling department--very staid rims. It could also use revised headlights.

Your better off with a GLI than a Wolfsburg. It's just a Jetta with the more powerful engine offered on its other Jetta models and it has a different set of wheels and some knick nacks added. That's all.

I wish someone would get serious and if they are going to do a model like the Wolfsburg, do more than appearances, drop a chip in the 200hp turbo 4 and boost it to 225-230hp.

Same goes for Honda with their Mugen Civic. Costs more than a Si or just about, and offers no boost in performance. I would have gone for something over or in the mid range. Civics have 140hp, Si has 197, so why not make it like 160hp, or 215, or something.

And Toyota just needs to get on board and offer a TRD version of almost all of their cars, with the wheels, suspension, exhaust, and a S/C or turbo'd engine to go with it.
