Passat, a reasonable "pass at" a copy of the current model of Lexus GS 300. I'll take the Toyota Avalon instead of the VW please.

The new Passat is very nice. Sexy, elegant, and sensible, as long as you don't get lost in the boot.

Like the looks alot, much better than the new Audi's front end. Interior looks great too. The main drawback I would have in purchasing this car is VW/Audi's sorry reputation for solving various electrical problems. The German automakers, Mercedes included, need to outsource the developement and manufacturing of ALL their electrical components to the Japanese, and yes American companies, that are lightyears ahead of the Germans in making reliable systems.
