Audi wants to build Q5 in America
The increasing exchange rate differential between the strengthening euro and weakening U.S. dollar means importing European manufactured models into the U.S. is now significantly more expensive than just a few years ago. Not surprisingly, many of Europe’s top manufacturers are moving production Stateside, the latest being Volkswagen, which is currently searching for a site to build a new plant and now possibly Audi as well.

Rivals BMW and Mercedes-Benz have benefited greatly from manufacturing their most popular vehicles in the U.S. locally. Audi’s sales numbers are much lower than its rivals but with new hybrid and diesel variants of the Q7 arriving in the next 12 months plus the all new Q5 SUV officials are now looking at making the move as well.

I have to agree with amazinBimmer. The Q5 appears to be nothing more than a "Soccer Mom"/Housewife car. Vehicles like that tend to get zero buzz. We may as well be talking about mini-vans.

If they let us Americans Build it the there goes the famous Audi Quality. Look what happened to Toyotas reliability when they started lettin us build the, From 1st to 5th place in consumer reports. I am a die hard American but we don't have the pride nor mentality to build a credible world class car and make it reliable and built well except for the cadillac CTS. other than that we suck. the Toyota Tundra and Nissan titan would be much better products if we had let the Japanese build them. Now Toyota is becoming the next GM.

Except they are completely (and I mean completely) unrelated!
Tiguan - Golf based
Q5 - A4 based.

I think all these companies are over-forecasting the size of this small-ute market. The RDX, EX35, GLK and X3 are all going after the same ten middle aged women.
