Maryland Considers Legislation Targeting Hybrids
A Maryland legislative committee will hold a hearing Tuesday, Feb. 19, on a bill that would create a task force to study the issue and possibly impose a minimum noise level for vehicles in the state.

Hybrid cars are gaining popularity around the U.S. because they are eco-friendly, but their silent engines are generating criticism from advocates of the blind.

 The testimony will be given to Maryland's Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee in support of a bill that would create a task force to recommend a minimum sound requirement for new vehicles sold and licensed in Maryland.

Fully agree, I have never heard of anything so stupid in all my life. Rather than blanket the state with noise pollution, they should develop special cane-mounted magnetic anomaly detectors to detect nearby moving steel vehicles for the blind. Of course the blind would still be at risk from moving aluminum vehicles and future carbon fiber vehicles.

Even an electric vehicle emits some detectable noise so maybe a cane-mounted amplifier would protect the blind.

That's funny!! I don't see how that even became a fad. Now that I think about it, I've never even seen(and heard) a car with a whistle tip installed.

If Prius owners drive like that idiot, the blind aren't the only ones at risk.
