Video: Nissan GT-R vs Porsche 911 Turbo (part 2)
Yesterday we brought you part one of CarMagazine’s Nissan GT-R and Porsche 911 Turbo faceoff. In part one, you got to see the Porsche 911 Turbo take the Rockingham’s circuit to set a track time for the GT-R to beat.

Well here it is; in part two of CarMagazine’s test the Nissan GT-R takes the track with a very sleek cameo appearance made by the 2008 BMW M3 Coupe.

Do you even know what the word 'obsolete' means?

The GT-R is a great car and so is the Porsche. Saying anything else would make that person sound like a fool.

Oh yeah.. Obsolete means - No longer in use, Or no longer useful.

Don't be sick because the GT-R was faster than the 911 Turbo...oops! too late...

yeah... go hide behind your mom. this car is meant to scare guys like you anyway...
Remember this : don't go play on the road. GTR will eat you up,...much easier than the 911 turbo

Well done Nissan! In the real world, the Porsche Turbo was the greatest of all supercars (at least the ones that middle class people could conceivably afford). Now, the GT-R has not only - at the minimum - just edged out the Turbo, it has done so at a price point that opens up sub 4 second 0-100 km/h performance to a whole new audience.

It's an awesome achievement.

Yes and the bottom line is the GTR is much easier to drive at the limit then the Turbo. That's probably the main reason why it can be driven faster. Porsche insists on that rear engine layout. Can you imagine if they developed the Cayman's chassis to handle turbo power and awd. My guess is that it would take back the crown from the GTR without too much trouble. It's really a shame that Porsche has comitted to protecting the 911's performance at all costs. The Cayman has better balance.

Many people still won't acknowledge that Nissan had several years to pull the 911 apart and benchmark their car against the 911. Give credit to where credit is due...the 911 came first...the Nissan is a result of persuing the performance benchmarks of the 911. I'm sure that Porsche can and will up the ante with the next revision of the 911...then what...the GTR will have to play catch up again. If Nissan was such a leader in the performance car arena...they would have had Porsche by the balls since day 1. The GT-R in my opinion is nothing more than a great comeback...to which I'm sure Porsche will have a response.

That's why companies themselves benchmark the market's leader. In this case, the benchmark was the 911. Nissan aimed and hit the bull's eye. In the marketing world, the GT-R would now be the benchmark in that market. Now, it is Porsche's job to reclaim its benchmark status by beating the GT-R with a meaner 911.

the Skyline GTR has beaten the 911 in the past. older versions set records at nurgurg ring. I knew this GTR would repeat its history and I am a German car fan but truth is truth and I seperate that from my favorite cars and admit truth.

So state the truth by example...give me dates, times, type of car, and what model Porsche did it beat.

@NeedForSpeed, Since you cant do your own research here it is: On 1993 the Nissan Skyline GTR-R33, became the record holder on the Nurburgring, pretty much beating everyone including Porsche. Anything else?

well, if they can do it for the same price as the gt-r, then i'll be equally impressed.

A real benchmark for sure!

A very sad and unhappy day for Porsche, and for the years to come. Did Porsche and other Germany car facotries lose their mojo? Look out, Germans!

Hopefully, Porsche will do something about this.

So just because the GT-R beat the 911 Turbo in the comparison you feel compelled to post the hisotry of Porsche racing? Your point being?

Well...that's in the history book..... a new history to be written now...Porsche will have a different future now, anyway... if you look at Japan GT races.. porsche is no way near the top... or serious contender, podium places mostly exchanged between nissan, toyota and honda

doubt it, so far every test on the GT-R has proven to best the 911. Whether it be Top gear, Edmundsinsideline, those japanese videos (although they seem to exaggerate)and even carmagazine, everybody who driven the gtr has said the car felt or went faster then the 911. But then again we should expect so, they've been only engineering it for the past 5 years, so its expected it'll do better then the 911 for the time being. Now its porsche turn, the v spec is comin in a year.

on a side not, I dont know if you ever read any of carmagazine articles, but they like every UK magazine love porsches, so this aint staged.

True, but even the best gotta retire sometime and let the new step in which is where the R8 and GTR come in. I doubt porsche is gonna sleep into the night, plus the addition of these 2 new rivals is gonna make them work harder to build better cars. So all the porsche fans out there cool down and keep your panties on its not the end of the world
