GM building new Pontiac G8 GXP

GM building new Pontiac G8 GXP
Down in Australia where the Pontiac G8 is manufactured, GM offers a high-performance version of the car tuned by Holden’s HSV performance arm complete with a LS2 V8 engine and a generous 411hp. The U.S., meanwhile, is only scheduled to get milder V6 and V8 models with the most powerful version developing just over 360hp. That could be about to change because according to a GM inventory listing program there will be a 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP fitted with the Corvette’s LS3 6.3L V8.

Pictured above is a G8 concept GM displayed at last year’s SEMA show.

Maybe that additional horsepower will help people forget that the interior that looks like it came out of a 1990s Grand Prix.

And yet it looks much nicer than anything found in any hon/yota.

Honda has way better interiors than GM. Toyota is arguably better, also.

For crying out loud. Look at these pictures. You can't tell me that the G6 has a nicer interior than the Accord.

Yea, that button-crazy mess inside the accord, and the ugly two tiered gauge pod on the civic, complete with BLOCKED digital speedo when the wheel is raised, scrams first class. Not even close.

And dont get me started on toyotas, with their raccoon fur fabrics, and dashes that look straight from 1988.

I'll say it again, they're overrated and only pleasing to the import-biased and downright ignorant.

I know es drivers are so bored behind the wheel that they cant focus and their attention drifts, but it happens on computers too? This thread is about the G8, not the G6. But, either way, yes, I can tell you I think they BOTH look better than the camcordima.

I have never been an American car guy and until I saw this I would have never considered one let alone a pontiac but this thing is hot! I am still a BMW man but this is really a nice car to help America get a better reputation. Looks much better put together than any other domestic but then again it is a Holdon Commodore.

it bears resemblance to BMW 3 series

I don't see any resemblance to the 3 series -- it's a Pontiac in every way, including the gimmicky wheel style. BTW, I'd rather have the NorthStar V8 than an old pushrod engine in that machine but it is obviously aimed at the upper lower class market where the Corvette brand impresses.

Where I wouldnt compare with a 3 series, id definitley put it in with the 5 series.

wake up, EnnNorak...

the Chevy pushrod is more powerful than the Northstar at this point. also the latest OHV V8s run just as smoothly as the DOHC Northstar.

I know for a fact: I have an '07 Impala SS with the 5.3 Chevy pushrod. I have two friends with Cadillacs (1 DTS, 1 STS, both Northstars) From behind the wheel, you can't tell the difference, except for the fact that the Chevy V8 has more low-end torque than the Northstar.

You really need to push a Northstar V8 past 4,000 rpm before it really wakes up and lays down the power (at least thats what my right foot and my rear end tell me!)

The northstar is a pain to work on and is not a very good engine. I have seen alot of them go bad on cadillacs, and they are not very smooth or quiet like you would expect for a multi valve v8 engine. the pushrod is more true to American muscle car roots.

Why does GM think this will succeed when the GTO failed?

The GTO remains one of the most coveted cars to this day.

as a 4 door sedan, the g8 is much more practical. also it will be offered in cheaper and even more practical v6 versions, unlike the gto which was strictly v coupe. the g has much better sales potential. it's obvious.

The G8 will do well, it looks much better than the 300/Charger and is well powered. The last GTO was cobbled together to sell it here and eas only a 2 door. 4 doors are always the bulk of the market.

kidney front grilles
quad headlights
M3 new style side vents
close to a hoffmeister kink
same stance
almost same lower fascia (just a split in the middle)

bmw/pontiac - seperated at birth.

Anyone thinks this is like the last gen m5? 400hp v8, manual tranny, mid/large sized sedan. im not comparing them, its like seeing the old m5 returning in another brand and disguise.

GM at its green best. This is what they should do more of. Stuff green. GM has no credibility there. I am sure there are enough people willing to buy this to keep GM afloat for a few more years...

Is that gurgling noise you hear this thing drinking or GM going down the toilet?

GM will never do down the toilet They had some of the first fossil fuel free vehicles on the face of the earth 20 years ago and they continue to set the standard in latest technologies. Where is the onStar on your HONDA TOYOTA NISSAN LEXUS INFINITY BMW MERCEDES VW AUDI FERRARI HYUNDAI KIA MINI and all other NON LIFE SAVING vehicles ?? HMMMMMMMM???

I hope your million dollar car crashes and starts on fire and you will NOT have onstar and no one will be there to help you in your poor firey foreign car death

HAHA I bet you my life saving GM will be around until we have spaceships hell they will probably be the first to invent affordable flying cars and mass producing them putting the car concept behind

You need to get your facts right GM doesn't have just one company it owns about 12 individual subsidized companys too.

SAAB
CHEVY
PONTIAC
BUICK
GMC
HOLDEN
SATURN
CADILLAC
HUMMER

Besides the government contracts GM for 90% of the small land vehicles they make so HMMM as long as US needs tank transmissions & HumV's REGARDLESS of Powerplant GM will be here to stay so dont talk smack
about a company you know nothing about. If Anything they will get rid of the smaller companys and become one great company selling 1 brand of vehicles and over 60 models to choose from. It's already in the works.

BTW I'd rather spend the extra 30k on my wife then on a stupid BMW.. What is she gunna say whene you wreck/buy a 65k car ??? BUT HONEY ITS A BMW !!! Most women will be like ... UHHH SO WHAT.. ???? Imports are for guys who have serious problems with society not accepting them in an American made car. So spend your money on a car that you will never really use on a track of any kind because your scared to really drive it and see what shes got... If you want a car to park it self get a shouffer..
