So what special trim does the pebble beach edition have? I know the Armani edition of the CLK, which by the way, has absolutely nothing to do with this subject, are comprised of Armani leather material and interior trims.

Why is it that you always have to bring up what another car company is doing to justify what Lexus does? Does this mean that they only follow and copy? you sure make it sound that way...

It was actually an honest question, because I did not know what special trim the pebble beach edition has. Theres a difference between have a pebble beach edition-exclusive trim, just as MB has with its designo packages, versus having a Armani edition.

yes its a pointless way to sell more RXs before the next redesign. however, im really feeling those rims and that trifle mica color. it looks really great in person. kinda like a brownish bronzish color. very special.

lexus is really streching the redesign of the rx. highlander was done in 08 so I thought the 2009 rx was going to be redesigned.

its going to be a redesign in 2009 as a 2010 model. I was very surprised that its one year late...i guess they had some stuff to work out.

anyways, if its a 2010 model, then that would make it a 5 year cycle. which is kinda late for lexus on the RX considering how much the competition has grown

i know but the rx is not that old by lexus standards but the this segment competition is very heated (new X5 and MDX)and it is a good selling model if they want to stay ahead they can't wait too long. anyways it is based on the highlander so when that is redesigned shouldn't the rx soon follow?

Actually... it's been 5 years. It came out as a 2004 model, in early 2003. We got ours in April of that year, and that was a couple months after the car's release.

Before you speak know what you are stating it has all that and more you are paying for the golf clubs, cooking etc plus a limited car so now what?

You're basically paying for the floor mats, wheels, badging, spoilers & chrome grill. No one will know this is a limited car unless you tell them it's 1 of 6000 sold this year...Oooh, big deal.

I'd be embarrassed to say I drive a "pebble beach" edition. Just another Lexus gimmick, and an RX for soccer moms.

Greige is the word. (Grey + beige). Dull dull dull.

I'd much rather have a sharp silver-grey or black than that cesspit of a colour. And it isn't just Lexus who do it, BMW and Merc have been launching a lot of cars in bronze colours, which to me is so 90's. 1 series convertible, 3 series convertible and X5 were all launched in bronze...plus GL and R class. It just smacks of a lack of imagination.

But back on topic, I just hate greige/beige/bronze. When all other technology moves to shiny blacks and metallic silvers, what does the car industry do? Churn out bland, soft, neutral tones...are they trying to make cars look like living rooms? I mean my bathroom is the same colour as BMW's Platinum Bronze - it's limestone. I do not want cars to look like floor tiles! Never mind the fact that bronze is a colour used by Toyota/Lexus/Cadillac/Lincoln through the 90's...also does anyone remember Mercedes' Champage Gold? Now that was a colour for people with all the taste of Paris Hilton. It's so tacky and reminds me too much of new build homes, bad jewellery and boring beige...I really do hate beige.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of course, but are these special editions any worse than all those Mercedes "sport" models featuring different wheels and faux carbon fiber trim?

If you have been to the Pebble Beach resort you would see Lexus has a big presence there. They use Lexus vehicles to drive people around the property and such.

Golf is popular. Pebble Beach is famous. Lexus has a parternship with Pebble Beach. Hence we have these cars.

If you guys get upset by something like this, all those Eddie Bauer and L.L. Bean vehicles must really piss you off.

"sport" models are exactly that...sport wheels, sport-tuned suspension, sport-seat that are firmer and more heavily bolstered, etc.

and "sport" has something to do with CARS.

what's in this pebble beach thing? green carpeting? a five iron? golf balls? and since when is golf part of the driving experience?

The Mercedes "sport" models of the C class and E class (of the mid to late 90's anyways) had no suspension difference from the standard cars. Those "sport" editions just featured different wheels, interior and B pillar faux carbon fiber, and maybe some side skirting. No performance changes.

So you think that the Pebble Beach cars erase all the success Lexus has had?

The MB "Sport" versions of a couple years ago were nothing more than a badge, wheels and some faux carbon fiber trim. I wouldn't be surprised if they were still at it today.

"Sport" was a visual trim level on Mercedes' cars of the early 1990s. No shit the suspension wasn't sturdier etc. It was all about visual changes.

It's similar to the first gen of RX that had the Coach Edition, with special flint gray metallic paint, gold/chrome trimming, special alloys, Coach badging (the purse company that is). And it came with Coach leather, a set of Coach luggage, etc. Some people like this stuff.

Same as Pontiac and Chevy had Daytona editions, and other cars available through Neiman Marcus with their special little trinkets. My grandfather had a 1999 Buick LeSabre Tour Edition, lot's a little nice features, luggage rack on the back, matte rooftop, PGA Tour logo embroidered on the side, etc. All companies do it, just to offer something a little different.

It also comes in black and silver.
