Porsche Cayenne diesel coming next year

Porsche is just over a year away from launching its first ever diesel model with news today the company plans to release a diesel powered Cayenne SUV next year. Porsche will likely go with a V6 diesel borrowed from Audi, which insiders claim will develop more than 300hp. Porsche had the option of selecting V8, V10 and even V12 diesel powerplants (as seen in the Audi R8 TDI concept) but ruled these out because they were deemed too heavy.

The information comes from UK auto industry analyst Peter Schmidt, who revealed to Automotive News Europe that “the diesel engine will be an upgraded V6 diesel from Audi.” Porsche wasn’t willing to confirm the comments but previously its CEO Wendelin Wiedeking said diesel powertrains were of interest to the carmaker.

c'mon Sevor- this makes perfect sense (and I'm in San Francisco-- where gas is half the price in Europe). A diesel Cayenne with a 6 speed manual- especially the next model that's said to be 550 lbs lighter than the current pig- is going to be excellent. Change is constant- and change for the better, a really good thing. Lets not knock Porsche here for not standing still. I'm sure the 911 Turbo, (my dream car BTW) will continue to evolve as per tradition- flat boxer six out the tail and 30mpg on the highway (at 65mph though), and 200mph when you want to (but cant do in the US anyway).

What would be the difference between VW Touareg V6 diesel and Cayenne V6 Diesel ? I bought a Cayenne V8 and not a V6/V10 VW/Audi Touareg/Q7 because I did want to drive diesel car. I live in France and be sure that diesel are so noisy and will not be a so good economic choice. As now 60% of new car sold in France are diesel powered taxes on gasoil/diesel increases faster than gasoline. Surely in France, in the next two years gasoil will be more expensive than gasoline to keep at least same taxes revenue for the Government. Once again, in place of buying a diesel Cayenne, better to buy a diesel Q7 or R8 TDi !
