Recall Friday: Acura Places 273,000 Wanted Posters Out For TL Models

Honda said it was recalling 273,000 2004-2008 TLs because prolonged high temperatures underneath the engine hood could cause the power steering hose to deteriorate, causing the hose to crack and leak power steering fluid.

The automaker said the fluid could leak onto a hot catalytic converter and lead to smoke and a possible fire. Acura spokesman Mike Spencer said there had been no fires or injuries reported. In the second action,

Honda said it was recalling 129,600 TLs from the 2004-05 model year to address a potential failure of the circuit breaker inside the windshield wiper motor.

EL34, why did you not make the same comment yesterday when BMW and MB were named in a lawsuit? To me, that is more deceiving. Being proactive and issuing a recall, even if the potential problem has not manifested in any injuries, is not being deceiving at all. It is being smart and attentive to your customers.

Sad to see this and it is a bad thing. However, few car markers are flawless in this regard and we need to look at the average number of recalls over a period of 3-5 years to get a reasonable idea of the true picture. On that score, Honda, Lexus/Toyota come out well, but they have undeniably had a few slip-ips lately and it is vital they tackle these quality issues agressively, otherwise they will end up in the same predicament that MB found itself in around 10 years ago: upping model selection and production numbers at the expense of quality.

I think the new Honda's have become cheaper in quality lately. I notice some mis-assembled parts in the Acura as well. Seems to be going down the GM-Toyota way.

German fans have there panties in a bunch fact is this is a preventive recall, unlike Audi's and Bimmers that catch on fire during testing. Or unlike any German product that 2 months down the road you are back at the dealer for some reason or another. Huh German Engineering more like German "Junk".

This is the best way to do a recall...before anyone is hurt! Some people just like to see their words in print and like to hear themself talk. Acura is doing the responsible thing and fixing a potential problem before their is a real problem. They should be commended and deserve their spot in consumer reports as best buys and recommended buys.
