New Ferrari F149 gets direct-injection technology

Ferrari officials have consistently denied rumors of a new entry-level Ferrari but recent spy shots of a heavily camouflaged car caught testing in Fiorano last month and the registration of the ‘GT California’ name back in October suggest otherwise. Latest reports claim the car will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in October and will eventually go on sale early next year with a price tag of about $190,000.

An inside source has confirmed the car’s existence to AutoWeek, revealing it will be a 2+2 GT with a front engine layout. The source also claims the new car’s engine will debut Ferrari’s direct-injection technology as well as a metal folding hardtop built by Pininfarina.

Where I live an F430 hits 300K easily. Up here in Canada. Used it's still mid-200's

There are many different types of direct injection audi uses wall injection while companies like Mercedes-Benz use what's called stratified injection the execution and advantages of each of these systems are vastly different. To say one company had this first is insane plus direct injection in diesels has been around for at least a decade.

The 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL, the first car to use fuel injection, used direct injection. The Bosch fuel injectors were placed into the bores on the cylinder wall used by the spark plugs in other Mercedes-Benz six-cylinder engines (the spark plugs were relocated to the cylinder head). Later, more mainstream applications of fuel injection favoured less expensive indirect injection methods.

volkswagen/audi isn`t the pioneer in modern direct injection petrol engines like is said on this propaganda volkswagen site . pioneer was mitsubishi with it`s GDI engines in 1997 .

The F430 is moving up the ladders, when its next gen comes out, considering this car will probably make it into production as a 2010 model.

F430 models seems to still command a premium in some markets for a low mile car hovering around ~$300K for a F1 spyder, a car with a hard top convertible under 200K should sell well for them and compete with similar priced Maserati, Bentley, Aston Martin cars

I was hoping it would be $130K to compete with the V8 Vantage, R8 and 911 Turbo. It could've been the first (used) Ferrari I ever owned.

I would love to see a Ferrari at around $130K. But between the R8 and the 911 Twin Turbo, it's a tough choice thanks to Audi excellent R8 design and innovation.
