American GP could return next year

Talks between the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) and Bernie Ecclestone to resurrect the US grand prix may have begun. Tony George, the famous Indy 500 venue’s chief, told an audience at the IU business conference in Indiana this week that he is pursuing options to patch up the relationship with the F1 chief executive in time for the Speedway’s centennial celebrations in 2009.

The American broadcaster Speed TV also revealed that Just Marketing, a local company, has been hired by the IMS to help find a formula one title sponsor.

I was at the '05 and '06 F1 races and Indy and the management did a fine job. The blast down the main straight is something to see - better have some good earplugs as well. My only complaint was the Mickey Mouse infield part of the circuit that should be more exciting. Michael Schumaker won both races - a hell of a competitor.

I agree on both of your points!
Vegas would be a better backdrop for F1 (America's best possible attempt to capture what Monaco is all about). Tony's ego did get in the way of negotiations, but in his defense, Bernie's is 1,000x bigger. I've never understood as to how IMS could be called "the racing capital of the world" when for the first 70+ years there was ONLY 1 RACE HELD EACH YEAR.

I was at last year's race. Loved it. But IMS and Indianapolis in general, haven't got a f'n clue as to how to host an international sporting event. Case in point: lamppost banners around Indianapolis (especially downtown) had either Indy 500 or Brickyard 400 on them for the 3 weeks leading to the race!!! This can't ever happen again. And it damn well better not happen when Moto GP gets here in September!
