BMW EfficientDynamics now and in the future

The BMW Vision EfficientDynamics concept car has made its world debut at the Geneva Motorshow. The concept car is designed to showcase the possible future direction of BMW’s EfficientDynamics performance enhancing and emissions lowering innovations. But BMW’s EfficientDynamics technologies aren’t all conceptual – far from it. At the same time, details have been published outlining the substantial CO2 and fuel savings that have already been made by BMW’s award-winning technologies.

Auto Start / Stop, Brake Energy Regeneration and lightweight engineering have been offered on almost all BMW products since early 2007. In the UK, cars featuring EfficientDynamics technologies now account for over 95 per cent of all models sold. On a Europe-wide basis, this is expected to equate to more than 700,000 EfficientDynamics-equipped cars sold in 2008.

The fact that the X5 is a much bigger, much heavier vehicle has everything to do with its emissions and fuel economy, plus the fact that this is a mild hybrid and not a full hybrid, therefore costs less to build...it's not even a hybrid really, it just employs fuel saving features...

If you don't understand that a vehicle's size and weight has everything to do with fuel efficiency then you are very stupid.

GoObama08: your comparing the X5 mild hybrid/diesel to the GS450h full hybrid is WEAK. Thanks for informing us that the Lexus hybrids are a generation behind - that explains why it's more cost effective/efficient to buy the gasoline version of the same model(s)...just as it has been extensively chronicled in the world automotive media.

This X5 weight 2.5 tons and yet it gets 43.5mpg. Try putting another 1000lb on the GS450h and see what the mpg is.

All i wanna ask is: how far do you guy drive everyday? and what's the average speed per tank?

I drive 80 mile a day, 10, 710, 105. my average speed per tank is only 27 mile/hr. I am dead sure Edmunds didn't drive their 300 miles with 27 mile/hr stop and go situation. however, i am dead sure there are hundred of thousands of drivers who stuck in traffic and never get a chance to reach 80 miles per hr.

so, what's the point? we all know hybrid is virtually useless when you don't have traffic. if you want REAL mpg, you need to ask anyone who drives a hybrid car instead of listen to what Edmunds say because no body test drive cars in jammed I10 freeway.

also. when was the last time you get 22.5 on your 535?
i don't know about 535, but i get around 20 to 22 mpg on the 528. yes. if i keep 40 to 45 mph or so i can get nearly 30 mpg. but again, my average speed is only 27 mpg.

Lexus has nothing to compete with the X3, X5 or X6 and he just loves to try and compare them with the Lexus flagship LS.. Like apples and oranges!!!
