Which would you choose as the BEST car for everyday, typical families? A crossover, a minivan, or a SUV? Edmunds brought a GMC Acadia crossover, a Toyota Sequoia full-size SUV and the Honda Odyssey minivan into a comparison test. And guess which was the winner?
In third place, the Sequoia has the complete package for the off-roading enthusiast with a whopping tow rating and all-wheel-drive capability. However, what it suffers from is in its height and bulky size, adding to that a thirsty engine averaging about 15.2 mpg.
Running up, the Acadia is a mix between traditional SUV's and minivans. Just a few miles more per gallon than the Sequoia, the Acadia lacks the features that many minivans offer to the table: sliding doors and functional utility.
The winner? The Honda Odyssey. It is the most convenient of the three in terms of utility. And the deep well in the cargo area of the Odyssey allows it to swallow large boxes. Other than that, the power-sliding doors makes it the winner in crowded parking lots. Although it is the slowest of the bunch, its EPA ratings are higher than the two.
