Cadillac working on 500hp CTS-V Coupe?

We already know that GM will be putting the show-stopper CT Coupe Concept into production in 2009 as a 2010 model year. The production model won’t be too far off from the concept we saw in Detroit, but will be a little toned down to meet production standards. Basically on the production model, all the metal ahead of the A-pillar will be identical to the CTS sedan.

Engine spec wise, we were told that the Cadillac CT Coupe Concept was designed to accommodate a range of engines including Cadillac’s popular 3.6L Direct Injection V6 and the new 2.9L turbo-diesel currently in development. The car is currently under development under the code-name GMX226 and will be rolling down the assembly line at GM’s Lansing Grand River plant in 2009.

They'd be stupid not to. The coupe is a visual stunner, and is arguably the more appropriate vessel for the high-performance 'V' treatment.

wouldn't it be funny if Cadillac continues its momentum based on cutting edge style and performance, while Lexus' core customers continue to age.? In 10 years or so, Cadillac will be on top, and Lexus will find itself in the same position that Cadillac was in prior to its revival.

Dear Jesus I hope so... Good Job Cadillac, just need a new STS and scrap the SRX, make a distinct Cadillac model of the GMC Acadia. That and there MUST be a new V8, or a new iteration of northstar..

As someone who has never owned an American auto, I am drinking the GM kool-aide big time. I would still buy a 3-series over a CTS, but GM is doing a hell of a job. 10 years from now I would love to have nothing but Detroit iron (or carbon fiber) in my driveway. They better make this car.

I just bought a Cherokee SRT-8 with 425hp. My first American car in 20 years of owning cars. It is a beast! The interior isn't as refined as the Germans/Lexus, but the technology is decent and the performance is stunning. And at $45k brand new it cost about $25k less than any of its SUV competitors from BMW, Mercedes, Porsche. I'm selling my E46 M3 and next year or so, the CTS-V Coupe could be my next car. Who would've thought in a million years that I could potentially be an All-American car owner!

One thing the readers who like this car will have to accept...the rear will be lengthened several inches over the concept coupe. The prototypes now being driven on public roads all have the lengthened rear end. Actually, I think it looks better being a little longer than the concept CTS coupe.

I hate the rear end it. It's hatch-like. Other than that the car looks stunning. It's a true contender with the G37 and 3 series.

A5/S5 is not in the leauge with 6-series as mentioned numerous time.

A5/S5 is direct competition to 3/g37 despite the price gap. It's only like 1.4inch longer than 3.

yeah but the 6-series is about 10" longer than the A5/S5. The Audi is not a 6-series competitor. In regards to size and space it competes with the 335 coupe. The G37 does not compete in size to either the Audi or BMW. Not even close. The g37's main competitor will be the 135. Although in performance those 2 are not even close.

I'm more than impressed with the performance of the SRT-8. And that's coming from someone who has owned or leased 3 BMW's since 2000 (01' X5 3.0, 02' 745Li and 02' M3 Convertible).

For the record, the SRT-8 gets the same looks I get in the M3. And it feels quicker off the line!!!

I'll be at the NY Auto Show next week checking out the CTS Coupe first hand. I know they will make a convertible!
