Rendering of Mercedes B-Class hatch, coupe and SUV
Yesterday we brought you a rendering of the next-generation A-Class hatch but the new entry-level Mercedes is just the first of a handful of new models to be based on the carmaker’s upcoming MFA (Mercedes Frontwheel Architecture) FWD platform. MFA will also be used for the next B-Class hatch and to ensure the project remains profitable Mercedes plans to launch several new variants to help boost sales.

In addition to the regular four-door hatch, Mercedes will also launch a compact SUV to compete with Audi’s upcoming Q3, a sporty two-door coupe to rival the BMW 1-series coupe, and a four-door sedan with a coupe-styling to form an entirely new niche.

I don't want a FWD car, especially a FWD Mercedes. Mercedes owners deserve better than FWD.

Actually it being a cheaper product than the c-class wouldn't that negate the whole concept of being a "rich" persons car.

If I am a gentleman of means, why would I buy my daughter or wife a A or B class MB when I could buy them a C, E or S of their choice.

Besides most people of modest affluence seem to be buying their children/wives BMW 3 series (no slight meant for MB)or Land Rovers. Why again would they want to step down.

These vehicles are being marketed at those who cant afford current entry into the US German automotive market. For example, lets say a recent college graduate who dosen't want to show up to his/her new professional job in the 1994 Civic DX he/she has been driving since highschool. Just so they can impress their boss if they ever had to drive them anywhere... so they may get a promotion in the future.

That's just one example of a possible target consumer.

On a side note...I hope they do produce a BMW 1 series rival. It's always good news for us customers when the automotive giants compete.
