macker83 , whatever do you mean by "american cars are crap" ??? The Cadillac CTS is one of the best cars on the planet and a terrific value as well. The Buick Lucerne can be ordered with a powerful DOHC fuel-efficient V8 at a fraction of the cost of a Mercedes S-class. I admit that cars like Audi have slightly better fit and finish but at what price? American cars used to be crap 20 years ago but have caught up with world class quality today.

The Lucerne has an athsmatic 4.6 V8 with only 275 hp - it's also FWD, with a clunky 4 speed auto, which is unacceptable in this day and age. Poor and mismatched interior trim doesn't help either.
I would much rather have a Lexus ES (Why am I saying this???)

Rupert, you're a smart kid, but you obviously have never driven a 4.6 northstar. it has never been described as 'asthmatic' the 275 bhp figure doesn't do it justice. I agree that the 4 speed auto is outdated, but it shifts more smoothly than the Lexus 5-speed. Also the 4.6 burns 87 octane gas - a real plus these days. Excellent for a design from 1992 if you ask me.

while i don't like the Lucerne much, it does have the most comfortable seats of any car i've ever sat in (including Cadillacs and Lexus) it's almost too comfortable: you will sit down and fall asleep before you turn the ignition key....

I changed my comment and didn't proof read it properly - I meant the V6 was athsmatic (a push-rod V6??) and however good the Northstar is, the 4 speed auto just ruins everything for me - the best engine could be killed by that.

Yes, I have it set to automatically record. The program menu says Ronnie Wood form the Rolling Stones was the guest. They also tested the Drophead Coupe (which made me like it a little more- the color was better than any of those hideous obnoxious shades of blue). Clarkson took some miniature blue ....thing without reverse and three wheels around through the BBC offices.

Oh yes...Clarkson also tested the Fiorano. In the end he didn't seem to be all that impressed with it.

Lol I saw that episode here in Britain several months ago - that small blue thing is a Peel, the smallest road-licensed vehicle that was ever on sale in Britain.

I cannot tell you how hard I laughed at the shot of the BBC reporters talking about handling claims from recent floods, and in the background you can just see the top of the Peel going across the screen.

And the policy for ethnically diverse single mother's on hemp bicycles or whatever it is...made me laugh out loud.

Has anyone else noticed that BBC America edits the shows differently for the American broadcast? When the episode from Monday originally aired in Britain it was different from what was shown on Monday night (I watched the original months ago on YouTube). For example, there was more to the RR test than what they showed on BBC America. What's the deal with that? Why the edits?

Give him a break, the cops did not see him breaking the law and so he wasn't given a ticket. It's similar to situation when we speed over the limit, if some junkie decides to take the pic of my car while i speed and shows it to the cops, should it be fair to prosecute me? He needs to be detected while breaking the law by the authority, otherwise, there should be no action against him.

The article does not provide specifics but in all frankness, the person who took that photograph probably has a psychological problem. If it was submitted to police it shows a desire for power, and not in an abstract sense, power over other people. This kind of person is the kind that was molested as a child, or grew up destitute and was publicly embarrassed, they probably have a victim complex and often detest wealthy or successful people.

I have news for these people- life is unpredictable and risky. Yes, there are people who should not use their cellular phones while driving, but to expect life, or driving down the highway at 70mph for that matter to be without risk and unpredictability is irretrievably stupid. Clarkson can drive while talking on cell better than most drivers can with both hands on steering and fully concentrating.
