2009 Nissan GT-R: Dyno Testing Godzilla

Remembering the awesome muscle car days of the 80's..Trans Am, Camaros, Corvettes, Supras, Mustangs, Chargers etc...And, I'm still fan of the old classic muscle cars. Having said that: GT-R brings the muscle car smell back and its very sweet. Return to the good ole muscle power and styling to be revered for many years to come and becoming a classic. GT-R has finally brought that sense of the classic car themes of the past. Too many car fans including I, have lost touch with the main reason as to why are we fans of cars. Is it cornering ability? Braking ability? Or could it be badge whoring? Again, in reference to GT-R, none of the above truely matters. Reason: It brings the good ole true muscle car theme we all used to love but yes, with hefty price tag this time. However, If we all sat and think for once, Why in the first place did we ever became a fans of the cars we defend and dispute with infantile comments and bunch pretentious brats, its because generally speaking because it was the CAR itself mostly; Not badge whoring so many european car fans to bolster. It doesn't matter what badge this car wears or where its built, If you were a true fan of car as in whether exotic, luxury or classic..you can't deny this is an awesome piece of engineering and feat that went in...i.e. Porsche, Ferrari etc. Albeit its considered as one of the new few cars labeled as an Super car (Toyota 3000GT was actually the first super car from the east). If this thing had a VW label or even a Yugo label..I'ld still consider this is one of the best in the world,period. Let's hear from you whiners, GO....

I love this car. Even its looks (which did have to grow on me)because they serve a serious purpose to its performance, which I respect. Its kinda like a the stealth fighter jet - odd proportions in some areas but dead serious about its job. And this article proves it by stating how efficiently Nissan has made this car. None of its power goes to waste. Its numbers aren't that far ahead of any of its intended competition but because its been engineered so well, it is the leader of the pack. This car has me excited for the future because I can't wait to see what its competiton (Porshe/Ferrari) comes up with as retaliation.

In this dyno tests, always the HP ratings come up lower than the Manufacture specified spec. Edmunds were nosy enough to make the dyno test of GTR, why don't they do it of the german cars like the 997 turbo, or even the much acclaimed new M3 and the C63 AMG, and i can bet you even for these cars the HP rating from the dyno test will be much lower than specified HP rating. But edmunds won't do it, because, AHh hhh ! they are pro german automotives. And Who cares about the dyno test power output, in real life the GTR spanks (In this segment even .1 second of difference is equivalent of a large margin gap) every other german car in the market, like the M6, SL AMG, 997 turbo, or even Audi R8, except for ultra sports cars like 911 GT2 or Porsche Carrera. So really in real life the GTR is magnanimously freakishly good, and this dyno test won't disappoint my ego about the GTR.

I think i'll stick with 480 HP, i have grown to really doubt these Dyno test ratings because for almost all the cars tested they always churn out HP ratings that are at least 40 to 50 HP below the specified mark. For example, the Shelby GT 500 was tested in Dyno and it turned out to produce only around 400 HP or so. So clear discrepancy with specified HP amount.

And that is the reason why you've lost any credibility you might've ever had in Autospies. But what can you expect from a spoiled brat mama's boy from the O.C.

One thing to keep in mind this car is quick because of its AWD and trick transmission. Its been described as a Z06 killer but in reality Z06's put down bare minimum 450 hp on the dyno and weigh 600 lbs less. Which is why they have a trap speed from 5-8 mph faster than the GTR. Which is huge also bone stock Z06's have ran in the 10's. I truly can't wait to blow one of these off the road.

Are you kidding me? A Z06? Get real son, the Vette is a great car but the GTR will smoke your Chevy as smooth and easy as you would an authentic Cuban. To blow a GTR off the road you will need a Carrera GT or something similar.

Z06 may be faster in straight line, but in terms of the whole dynamics of GTR as a sports car (the unique and powerful design, technology showcase, brilliant handling dynamics, high speed body roll stability, track day and daily life usability and simply the awe with which it presents it's legendary credentials, and of course the lap record in Nordschleife) it leaps way beyond the Z06, i hardly doubt any real enthusiast will disagree with me when i say that GTR is in a totally different league to a Z06. The Z06 is brilliant in the track, but in real raods, the unforgiving suspension may break your backbones. Also the Z06 is not faster than a 997 turbo, and the GTR is. Really regardless of whether you like or dislike Japanese cars, everyone must take their hats off to this stupendous achievement. It is simple: there has not been a car like the GTR in the last 10 years of automotive history. I think after Mclaren F1, this is the most revolutionary, and mind stupefying car there has come to be.

Those are some pretty serious numbers!!

I believe the Mclaren F1 was perched onto it's lofty position for being the first production car ever to reach a 0-60mph time of about 3.2 seconds, and by the figures, it looks like the GTR is only .1 second slower than the Mclaren F1, and guess what guys, people are still willing to pay over 1 million dollars to own the F1. Just think about it, Nissan GTR giving you performance comparable to the Mclaren F1, for a scant price of mere 65 thousand dollars. What strikes me is how Nissan is making this technological masterpiece so affordable, really, production must have become very efficient compared to 1990s.

I should probably mention that I don't drive a Z06, and my Corvette is far from stock....with 620 hp I doubt a GTR will even be in the same zip code as me.

Heck, why don't you compare it with the space shuttle Discovery and brag about that too?. I'm sure that it is much faster that the GT-R (at least from an upright position) What do you think, germeezy?

Do you guys suck that bad at reading? It says " quickest" the Z06 is much faster than the 997 TT at speeds over 100 mph.

oh man the GT-R killed the GT3! i definitely liked the duel screen display of the both cars. gave more input and showed where the GT-R prevails over the GT3. The GT-R just owns its rivals with ease and it makes you wonder why isnt the R8/911 like this while they cost nearly twice as much? All hail the GT-R!

Back to the drawing board now everyone....we got a Datsun to beat!
