Daimler to share lithium-ion technology with BMW

Daimler plans to broaden the use of its lithium-ion hybrid technology after debuting it in the Mercedes-Benz S400 BlueHYBRID next year, the first lithium-ion battery powered series production car. According to executive board member Thomas Weber, Daimler will share the lithium-ion technology with BMW.

I think this is a step in the right direction, when big auto companies seriously get into making cars more fuel efficient and lowering emissions. it would be a good thing if they also directed their money and efforts into electric vehicles, rather like ZAP (http://zapworld.com) who is doing pioneering work in the field of electric vehicles.

Whatever happened to the GM lithium-ion technology? I remember reading an article about them annoucing it in Geneva and then have heard nothing since. At one point, wasnt GM partnering with MB on this technology?

yes this reduce costs but if they go this "way" far soon there will be no vw , mercedes , bmw , audi , there will be "german car" everyone with that same technology : urea injection-bluetec vw mercedes bmw(other name) , joint small car with mercedes and bmw ,now lithium-ion , common hybrid bmw mercedes gm chlysler .

For MB to be sharing with BMW, they must be scared or hedging their bets in case Toyots and Honda run a way with it.. So funny to see them do this.. they'll still be playing catch up.. whilst Toyota workd on the nect generation batteries that aren't even Li-ION based..

The ones GM are working on are from Hitachi as mentioned in a previous article.
