Toyota to cutback Tundra and Sequoia output due to slow sales

It's good to see than even the angel from on high, Sunday child has a bad day or two once in a while.

Slow sales??? I know I dont have to post the sales results of the Tundra for the past 12 months, or last month's increased Sequoia sales (the first month of the new model). People here are smarter than that!!???

Obviously Toyota sees slower sales coming up, as the US economy continues to contract. But to blame a reduced production schedule on past slow sales is just false. For that matter, if they are smart, Toyota will cut production on just about everything because of this lousy economy. Maybe they should just shut down their entire operations for 2 weeks, like Chrysler (and tho not as often mentioned, Ford and GM do this as well).

"Light-truck sales in the U.S. have declined by 103,558 in the first two months of 2008." But not because of the Tundra or Sequoia.

The Sequoia is useless for Toyota, they dont sell well at all and tarnishes their image as a green company.

actually here in alaska, the Sequoia is WELL RECEIVED. a great alternative to suburbans. with RELIABLE toyota power.

a real 'Alaskan Cadillac.' or more an "Alaskan Lexus." people in the market for these don't give a hoot for fuel efficiency. or green creds.

I agree as well. The desire to offer a "complete" lineup should be balanced against Toyota's image. Offering this vehicle, especially considering how poorly it's been received, seems like a mis-step. Of course, maybe Toyota's new diesel powertrain will make this SUV more viable.

well just to give you some leeway here, the LX is based on the landcruiser. its just a luxrious version of the LC.

Toyota just made another ford/chev/dodge pu! What I am suggesting is that Toyota decided to copy a poor idea, a truck that can't go off road! That isn't original! If Toyota decided to be original and make a truck do it all that would be a first! There is nothing different or unique to make me want to buy the toyota, they are pretty much all the same! Crap!

How often do you go off roading on your truck?Realistically speaking instead of trying to impress how big your balls are...The fact is 85% or higher do not go off road ever with their trucks. Secondly, how is a truck supposed to be, "unique"? I mean, most badge whores in this web-site bitch and moan when Honda Ridgeline cameout with a unique designs and ideas..I mean what would you recommend? Toyota to start building all of their trucks made for off road with a safety nets, wings, 3 point seatbelt, no airbags, etc so you could be satisfied slinging mud while doing figure 8 after a rainfall? come-on..get real here.

Although Toyota Tundra has a great engine and good brakes! No other company has put any interest or effort to make there trucks stop like the Toyota!Toyota has the best 60-0 stopping times hands down! Don't get me wrong, they are all nice pavement princeses and trailer queens, just now off road worthy! Toyota does have a very slight advantage in the off road engeneering, but not even good enough to mention. Sorry Toyota fans! For the record I have mostly driven 4x4 toys.

Niceholmer you are right most people with trucks don't drive off road, then again most people with Ferraris don't drive 200 mph either, what I would like to see is a truck with more than the standard 7-8inches of front/rear wheel travel! The desert race trucks have up to 30 inches of wheel travel! I would be happy if a company would go at the least half way!Am I asking too much! Look under any of the stock trucks and look at all the low hanging gas tanks and shocks, and the oilpan...hanging begging to get hung up on a trail obstacles, And why would a rear lift block be standard equipement with leaf springs? Lift blocks increase leverage on the leaf springs so under low traction you get axle hop! Cudos to Dodge for getting rid of the archaic lift blocks! Then again has anyone noticed 3/4-1 ton Dodge and Ford trucks there tie rods are only around 8 inches off the ground! There are solutions that can fix these easily! Too easy! Unfortunatly the aftermarket fix would be huge!$$$$$ Chev still has there rear shocks that hang around 7inches off the groung, thankfully ford and toyota have fixed that! Also they could all improve there approach,breakover and departure angles.Am I speaking Greek to you? I wish I was in the dark about all these issues too!

and buying homes and otherwise recycling their salaries in the respective local economies.

Its hitting the fan over in Japan.

First, they drop in Consumer Reports reliability ratings.

Then, Toyota president admits quality was a casualty during rapid growth.

Now, they are cutting production.

What's the bid deal?
Gas prices go up -- gas guzzler sales go down.
ALL makers will see drops in sales of large SUVs, and if they don't reduce production to match a drop in sales they are complete idiots.

This decision by Toyota is just sound business and is not newsworthy at all.

PS: Expect to see increases in economy cars too, at least if it weren't for a recession.

furthermore, toyota is the smartest company in keeping "days supply" inventories low, to minimize costs.

in months to come, they won't have to put as much cash on the hood as their competitors to clear clogged dealer lots. which will ALSO keep values up for current owners.

only downside: toyota sees a recession's coming. and they are pretty astute.
