BMW Caught Filming new X6 in Uptown Charlotte

As the ACC championship game was ending I caught a few pictures of the new BMW X6 being filmed driving south on Tryon street in downtown Charlotte. The caravan consisted of a white X6 followed by a white X5. The white X5 had a camera mounted to the front as you can see by the photo. Another black X5 followed closely behind the white X5. All three had South Carolina manufacturer plates. The BMW facility in Greer, SC is located about an hour and a half from Charlotte. Unfortunately the film crew drove home empty handed as Clemson lost to UNC 81-86.

I fail see any reason to buy the x6 over an x5, or any comparably equipped SUV. The x6 is nothing more than an x5 with a sloped rear roofline. Sure the front fascia is different, but other than that, I fail to see the logic in paying so much, for less. I'd much prefer to spend a little extra on an x5 with loads more style and space, than throw down such a huge chunk of money for some "wannabe".

Not a "wannabe" anything. Performance is the difference. The V8 version of the X6 will have 400hp and will handle more like a 650 than an SUV.

There are actually people who want a bit more space for groceries than the coupes provide, love BMW's, but aren't ready to graduate to the X5.

I personally agree with you on the price issue with the X6, which by the way may be more expensive than the X5 due to the engine options.

well by your theory than coupe, convertible, and high performance variants make no sense either...more money, less practicality. most coupes are simply 2 door sleek slightly restyled variants of the 4 doors they are based on...take the clk class a c class coupe that costs thousands more than the c class sedan, yeah costs less money to build. Or any other coupe vs its sedan sibling more money from a small amount more to alot more and less space

The X5 looks MUCH better than the X6. I still don't understand what's the purpose of this ugly cut off end car.

P.S. its funny there're 3 pictures but only in 1 of them the X6 is seen. lol

I saw one in Abu Dhabi last weekend. same colour white. pretty cool but cant see the purpose of driving this car ( other than just for the sake of being cool) . Now, that's uncool!!!

There is a BMW Group office literally the next block to where I live. They've gotten a couple X6s parked out during the day. I have driven by catching a glimpse of the back and side of the car. It. Looks. VERY. Good. Not nearly as odd as photos sometimes suggest. I've a good mind to just walk up there one of these days to view it 360 - at least until security might tell me to leave the grounds :)
