Mercedes B-Class with fuel-cell drive coming in 2010

Mercedes has successfully completed winter testing for the upcoming 2010 Mercedes-Benz B-Class with fuel-cell drive in northern Sweden.

“The results of the winter tests proved that we are on the right track with this innovative drive concept and have taken another important step on the road to reaching production standard,” said Dr. Thomas Weber, Daimler AG board member with responsibility for r&d. “As with the standard test programmes for conventional vehicles, we will be subjecting the B-Class F-CELL to further rigorous testing over the next few months.”

Mercedes needs to get rid of the dreaded CVT on the B and make that vehicle a little bigger and available with a diesel. RWD with LSD would be perfect. AWD could be an option.

Great news!!! No other automaker has announced anything yet to hit the market using Fuel Cell technology with (get this Lexus freaks) ZERO EMISSIONS. You seem baffled I know, so what does this mean? It means Mercedes-Benz not Lexus, has created the ULTIMATE environmentally friendly machine.

Yes but it's not a fuel cell, it's the rather inefficient combustion of hydrogen in a regular V12.

I think that most European makers have developed zero-emissions test vehicles in-house. They just don't make a big deal about it. This one is announced because its going to market.

When the B-class came to Canada a few years ago, they said the diesel version was following shortly.
I'd buy it with a diesel ( & DSG) You could drive anywhere in the world.
But with a fuel cell?
I presume its Hydrogen powered ... curiously, the article doesn't mention what the fuel is ... could be plutonium...
Hydrogen isn't available very many places yet..............
