Labor Group Charges Toyota Canada With Intimidation Tactics

Toyota Motor Corp engaged in unfair labor practices to sway workers at an Ontario plant where a representation election may be held this week, the Machinists union said in a complaint to the provincial government.

Communications sent to workers at the Cambridge, Ontario, factory "crossed the line set by the law, which prevents employers from intimidating and unduly influencing employees to vote against a union," the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers said in a statement Monday.

The complaint was filed with Ontario's Labour Relations Board, union spokesman Bill Trbovich said. The vote is tentatively set for Thursday, union organizer Ian Morland said in a Friday interview.

I want them all to suffer if they do not harmonize Canadians MSRP with U.S. MSRP. Canadians are tired of getting gouged even though the C$ is at par with the U.S.$. Car company propaganda alleges that the cost of doing business in Canada is higher -- what a load of bull since we have socialized medicine here and the car companies could easily organize their zone offices so that the Canadian market becomes a simple extension of the U.S. market. Canada does not have to attract extra overhead if the car companies learn how to manage thier North American operations properly in the context of a single market.

Another argument used by car companies is when they cry the blues about all those residual values on leased cars now being higher than corresponding wholesale values -- I say SO WHAT -- Canadian consumers have been screwed for so long now that they have prepaid any such losses long ago.
