2008 NEW YORK AUTO SHOW: Spies Get The Jump On First Pics From N.Y.! Buick To Show Concept In Beijing

In town for the 2008 New York Auto Show, The Spies still had some of the luck of the Irish going going for us, even one day after the big St. Patrick's Day bashes in Manhattan, as we got the first glimpse of the Buick Invicta Concept coming to the 2008 Beijing Auto Show.

GM hosted a media luncheon with their head of design and some up and coming Buick designers at beautiful Cipriani in New York.

They spoketo us about the rich design heritage at Buick and gave us an up close and personal look at the Riviera concept, complete with blue lighting demo and sketched out the Invicta Concept that will go live at the Beijing Auto Show next month.

We've seen attractive concepts from Buick before (Lacrosse for example). The real question is, what will the production version look like? Times have changed. A concept car, however beautiful it may be, means nothing unless you can bring it to the showroom intact with very limited dilution of style and proportion. This concept looks great, but I'll believe it when I see it.

GM has done a pretty darn good job bringing concepts through to production recently: SSR, Solstice, Camaro (though not out yet looks to be VERY close to the concept).

I like the Chinese buicks, compared to the current buick save the enclave...
