New York Auto Show: Nissan shows Denki Cube Concept, gasoline Cube coming in 2009

Probably the only ‘green’ thing you’ll see at the 2008 New York Auto Show, Nissan today announced the lithium-ion battery-powered Denki Cube electric vehicle concept. The Denki Cube also gives us a preview of Nissan’s future small car strategy in the North American Market, which includes plans to sell a redesigned gasoline next-generation Cube in the beginning of 2009.

In the Denki Cube concept, Nissan replaced the standard 1.3 liter inline 4-cylinder engine found in the production Cube with an electric motor and laminated lithium-ion batteries located under the floor and seats.

Smart move by nissan. To premiere an all electric concept in a city a crowded as NY makes perfect sence, as this would be the market it is aiming at.

I realize this is a concept however will nissan release any detail and what they expect the power the battery will produce as well as the milage the battery will last.

Finally, I realize that it is smart to put the plug in the front of the vehicle as if you had a house to park it at it would end up getting closest to the outlet. However the way its displayed kind of makes it look like the little box has a runny nose.
