Showdown II : Lexus ISF versus BMW M3 (E46)
How does the ISF fair against the E46 M3? We weren't suprised

You saw footage of the Lexus ISF at the VMAX ReDline 2008 last week, it was quite impressive as it laid the "smacketh" down on the Audi RS4. Now how does it the Japanese "F" ury stack up against the iconic BMW E46 M3? Fast forward to 3:30 for the showdown between the two automobiles. I guess Lexus could say F stands for 172 mph at the VMAX Redline 2008.

a 135i could probably beat an E46 M3 around a track, so if that was the IS-F's target Lexus might want to try aiming a little higher next time. Maybe then the IS-F won't come in last place in all the comparison tests against the CURRENT competitors.

Its really of no importance to race teh ISF against that last gen M3. The lexus has like 70 horses and quite a bit of torque on that car. Decent video though.

Why is the IS-F being raced against a last generation E46 M3? So it would win? *Confused*

But of course, the IS-F is being compared to the last generation M3 because it can't make the cut with the new generation M3.

Lexus continues to tear apart BMW's and study them to create their new models, but in the process BMW continues to advance it's new models with far superior technology.

The IS-F is actually a poor imitation of a 7 year old M3.

i can name a handful of cars that are faster than my 2002 M3. Oh the 02 M3 is effectively the same as the current M3. New M3's are iat the dealrshiops. So the IS-F better beat the E46 M3 of else they would only sell a handful of IS-Fs. And I actually think the IS-F can deliver on the performance to near the limit. But judging from the video if even I added some the cold air intake and uograded the seating the IS-F should be Well spoken of. Also, as a result of the lex lovers orders/commeents/rants over the past 18 months I declare the IS-F THE FIRST SHOULD'VE, WOULD,VE COULD'VE Lexus credit. It just has no home! I love my Cherokee SRT-* to f

I noticed that the ISF is always on one side of the track which happens to be the smoother one. If you see the other side of the track its uneven road. I'm not knocking the abilities of the ISF but it is harder to put the power down on and uneven surface.

DasAuto, I noticed that too. It was very choppy on the other side. You could see all of the cars 'bounce' when they took off.

To prove that when Lexus attempts to take on a BMW it must be a BMW with 7 year old technology and not one of the same year production.

Lexus took apart an M3 when they were making the IS-F.
Please explain to me "technology from the future".
How is it advanced when it LOST so many comparison tests?

Using your stupid logic, the m3 is more advanced than the dirty jap, nip, monkey, war criminal trash.

How the %$#@ could an ISF beat a formula one car? that has to be the most retarded post I have ever heard in my life!! there is no production car in the world that can even come close to a Formula one car. and I'm so sure the 417 hp ISF wold stomp a 1001hp Veyron. I didn't know the ISF went 253mph. come on get real. I mean yeah against an M3 or the likes a better driver could beat it with the ISF. But the other driver would have to be far less of a better driver considering how bad the new M3 beat it on the track.

I just got the '08 M3 4-door and I think it is an awesome piece of machinery. Even if the Lexus was a bit faster than the M3, at the end of the day when it is all said and done, the M3 is still an M3, and the Lexus is still a wannabe.

the good news is the M3 is faster than the ISF in all aspects. Gobama has been sipping his cool-aid for days now & alot of his comments come from the sugar rush. He is still in dillusion about his beloved ISF getting trounced by the 2008 M3 by over 4 seconds on a track.

GoObama,

SHUT UP! Why did you avoid this thread, you puss!

http://www.autospies.com/news/New-IS-F-M3-C63-Comparo-MotorTrend-27503/

I will tell you why, your IS-F got its ASS kicked.

Look at the lap times, DOMINATED by the M3.

LAST PLACE in the comparo.

Have a nice day, you moron.

what a ___ The freakin IS-F was equal or faster in most Accel. tests against the M3 in that Motor Trend comparison. The 3rd place was full subjective.

ISF doesn't have a manual transmission, it has an automatic transmission with manual control, ie. steptronic etc.. SMG, DSG etc. have manual transmissions with automatic controls (Automated clutch).

He is just tryin' to vent his anger on here because in reality he knows the IS-F is a LOSER to the M3 and the 335i coupe.

You have to be "Right" to make a respectable comment on here. The IS-F is just plain inferior to the new M3. All the data backs this up and the Lexus fanboys know this.

if both sales rep allow me to test drive 5 hours each car, i think can make a decision which car get more fun (not 0-400 drag). youtube video & brochure are not enough to determine. But at that price level, i hope ISF will come manual transmission next year...

Fast forward to May and now that the V8 M3 love fest with Motor Trend, Car and Driver, and others is over Road and Track took their turn with the "NEW" M3, the RS4, IS F and C63. For once the drivers used the IS F's slick 8 speed, rev matching transmission properly and it clearly shows.

The IS F 0 - 60 in 4.2 seconds, RS4 4.5, M3 4.6, C63 4.1. 1/4 mile the M3 couldn't even break below 13 seconds.

So for all of you that worship at the altar of BMW the M3's V8 is the smallest of the bunch and has to be worked very hard at the top of it's redline to finesse its best power. While the IS F with it's robust 5 liter engine tromps the weakling at all ends.

Thank you Road and Track, I love my IS F. See you M3 owners on the highway, behind me of course working your clutch.
