Ford planning new sports coupe

After bowing out of the market in the late 1980s, Ford’s European Capri sports coupe could make a return as a rival to Volkswagen’s rejuvenated Scirocco coupe. Several reports coming out of Germany claim Ford is prepping a new a concept to celebrate next year’s 40th anniversary of the original Ford Capri Mk1 from 1969. The concept will eventually spawn a new Mk4 version around 2012.

Ford makes nice concepts, but never follows through on the actual design of these cars. Remember the Bronco concept, never made it past a show car. Also the 449 or whatever it was, looked like a Ford version of the Chrysler 300, that turned into the fugly new Taurus/500.

I think they also forgot to mention another sport coupe in Ford's Stable. The Probe. With a 24V DOHC V6 (same as in the Contour SVT), it was a nice quick little car.

Yes-There is a definate gap now that there is no performance Focus hatch in the US. Make the dam car Ford!
