Pontiac Solstice Coupe will not get a V6 or AWD

Besides the Hyundai Genesis Coupe, the Pontiac Solstice Coupe was the other car that turned heads at the 2008 New York Auto Show. The engine choices are the same as the convertible including a base 2.4L Ecotec 4-cylinder engine producing 173hp and a GXP version powered by a 2.0L turbocharged Ecotec that produces 260hp.

Not exactly a shocker that there would be no AWD on the Solstice...

The V6 would probably not fit in the car or would likely throw it off balance is what I am thinking. Pontiac should ask for Toyota's 1.8 L that they have in the Vibe to use in the Solstice and tune that. :) (not going to happen - I know)

Toyota's 1.8L has a LOT of potential. Although it's boring in Toyota models, tune it right like engineers did with the Lotus and the engine is transformed into something brilliant.

Why would GM want to rework the wheel? GM's 2.4 Ecotec makes more power across the board than the Toyota 1.8 likely while getting better gas mileage. And GM's 2.0T DI Ecotec is putting out 260 hp/tq w/ a nice flat torque curve and lots of room left to bump the power at a later date. GM's Ecotec blocks have also been quite reliable.

I see no reason to use the 1.8 Toyota motor in anything GM except for the Vibe (which is merely a rebadged Matrix).

a V6 would fit fine there are several in the area with lS2s in them giving that the GXP has 260 HP the CTS's DI 3.6L would be the only choice and 40 extra HP wouldn't worrent the weight penalty

Both Ecotec powerplants are more then sufficient propelling the Solstice/Sky and more importantly kicking the competitions ass like it has been doing.

I'm with you on that one as well. Just not a big fan of a targa top.
