Lutz on the ‘El Camino’ nameplate: I personally like the name

“I personally like the name,” GM Vice Chairman Bob Lutz said when asked if “El Camino” has a chance. “It would have instant recognition. It’s a good name. It was always a good name.”

I agree and already stated that one. Although El Camino is instantly recognizable, it would make people tilt their heads at the fact that the name is derived from a Chevy. Granted they are both GMs but it would be like naming next gen G5 the Lumina or something. It just doesn't fit.

The El Camino is a Chevy and it needs to stay that way. I do not think there is a very good chance that this Pontiac will be named that though.

Does this car have a viable business case to be a success? It won't be a disaster like the Aztec, but it seems to be going down the same road as the Chevy SSR.
Do any of you guys/gals like this vehicle?

GMC division used to have their version of the el camino.

it was called "Caballero" or "El Caballero." the latter could be used without offending chevy guys.
