And the worst vehicle at the New York auto show was...

As we reported last week, Jeep was getting ready to launch a real DUD!

And we were not disappointed...

Hands down, the UGLIEST vehicle shown at the show was the new Jeep Commander.

When we asked a company rep to tell us how many Commanders they were projecting to sell, they said it would totally be based on demand.

Well, we can guarantee this will be one SHORT run of vehicles if that is the case.

Very strange vehicle, I guess it looks a little like a cross between a old Jeep Cherokee and the very old Mercedes G500 - but why did it have to be so square and boring. I thought larger vehicles were easier to design with style than smaller ones. Its sale prospects depend on price, Houston Chronicle newspaper has ads for New Chevy Tahoes at up to $14,000 off MSRP - so the new Jeep better be real cheap!

I thought pic. of a new jeep was a prank. But then I said..nah..I bet its real. just kidding.

BTW this jeep gets a whopping 13 mpg too! Whatch out humvee!

Miracle if this jeep is still sold in 1 yr!

If Yugo were to make an SUV, this would be it. Maybe it was designed in the old Czec Republic? Basic butt ugly. Whoever approved this design should be fired! I can't imagine anyone buying one of these vehicles.

The Commander stand looks to be crowded with people trying to get a glimpse of this revolutionary and outstanding new model from Jeep. Leading designers from Europe seem to be swarming over and taking notes. They cannot believe such an original design has never been seem before.

I mean, square tail lamps with a square number plate surround and square windows and square headlights and a completely flat windscreen coupled with a big chunk of square front bumper makes for a very appealing car.

And then the dream was over.

But the more you look at the pictures the more it looks like a CHAIKA. At last, a masterpiece from design bureau number 356! I knw they could do it!

So what have we learned from the discussions, here are two suggestions
(i.) the new Jeep may have some appeal to die-hard Jeep fans
(ii.) it has no appeal to the majority of vehicle-shoppers

Therefore the new Jeep may help Chrysler maintain some of its declining market share in SUVs, because apparently buyers have been fleeing from the Jeep brand. There is value to Jeep maintaining its existing customer base.
