Audi R4 not to see production because Porsche execs are scared!
Porsche’s majority control over Volkswagen, Audi’s daddy, is really starting to piss us off. First of all, Porsche is going to use Volkswagen to get out of paying strict U.S. fuel-economy fines, and now they are going to hold Audi from expanding their lineup.

According to Automotive News, Audi will not be building the baby version of the R8 supercar that may challenge the Porsche’s Boxster. Over the past year, Audi sources have told the media that they are planning a smaller version of the R8 that could be called the R4.

Latest reports say that an Audi spokesman...

Hopefully, Porsche has fixed their oil leaking problems on their engines. I do like their little cute logos though. I'ld take GT-R in a heart beat over these outdated designed porsches with ancient interiors with overpriced tags that leaks oil.

Outdated? Porsche generally is considered leading edge by those in the know.

@ GoObama08,

Stop lying about the GT-R! You know that your heart belongs to a Prius!

That sucks. Well, perhaps they can now make the next TT even more of a sports car.

Having a R4 based off the new porsche boxer did sound like a good idea to me either, if Audi were a independent company then they could make their own Audi R4 without Porsche's help, in fact just make a better Audi TT, look at the Nissan GTR this car is front engined and 4-wheel drive much faster than the 911 Turbo, M3 and Audi R8

Actually dufus, Audi WAS the ONE developing the R4 to share with Porsche and not the other way around. The article is somewhat bogus as Audi never confirmed an R4 for design or production. The previous pics were speculation rather than fact. Not sure this is really news or rather rumor. The next Boxter was to be based off the Audi R4 platform. So, I am not sure how accurate this information is. Autospies is the TMZ of automotive sites and they try to to make fact out of fiction many times, and churn rumor mills so fanboy mania takes over. Yes, Wiedeking, Piech, and the Wiedeking's henchman the CFO of Porsche will have seats on the Audi Supervisory Board. But they do know what it takes to make money whether it comes from Audi, VW, or Porsche for the the overall group. Porsche is likely to spin Audi off from VW and have Audi and Porsche directly connected so Porsche can maintain higher profit margins. So killing the R4 is not necessarily a smart move as why would Porsche care if they make money on both ends.

The title clearly says that Porsche execs are "scared."

It has nothing to do with profitability.

Smart move...Audi trying to clone a Porsche for one of it's own is not a good idea. Hopefully they can focus on making the TT more of a sports car.

Audis isn't cloning anything. You guys think that Audi cannot produce a competitor to a Porsche. You must be hiding your head in the sand then. Check out the R8 for starters. As the facts ACTUALLY are, Audi was developing the R4 (though not officially confirmed) platform from which Porsche would share it for their next Boxster, not Audi cloning the Porsche. So, whether this rumor is true is highly speculative. You guys will do anything to twist something against Audi even if you have to lie about it. Great so called auto enthusiasts here. No wonder Autospies gets laughed at from serious auto types.

From that picture, the R4 looks just like the Audi TT. So what's the point?

Just make a TT that shares the characteristics of the R8.

No one want to kill the cash cow. It's business 101.
