Score! Audi RS8 coming next year with V10 580-hp

Audi execs have been saying that it will never happen, but now, according sources at AutoCar, Audi will be bringing an even hotter and faster R8 super car next year, the RS8.

Audi’s powertrain development Wolfgang Hatz confirmed the car with AutoCar this past weekend. “The car is now signed off, and will appear during the second quarter of 2009,” he said.

Possibly, but the likelihood of Audi coming out with an RS8 based A8 is about as good at BMW coming out with an M7. The alternatives would have been a mouthful though: R8-S, RS-R8, R8-RS... RS8 flows enough and you know you're not going to get it confused with an A8 based car.

It will be awesome with the twin turbo V10. Considering the engine makes the heavier RS6 quicker than the current R8.

I thought Audi was experiencing problems with the RS6 V10 in the R8 since the R8 kept burning up during testing and decided not to bring it to the R8.
