i have stated in the past that park assist technology will eventually be more available and here is the proof.

Dropping the name makes sense due to the fact they are going to reintroduce the Passat as a model that is priced lower than it currently is.

yeah, I'm in agreement there. "Coupe" has just become a buzzword that marketdroids have been construing to make it seem cooler. I'm all for the coupe like shapes in the CLS and CC, but please, it's a sedan.

Hopefully this isn't another "Ford Taurus" naming mistake.

CC only VW with Park Assist? I was certain that there are other models with Park Assist...

Other VW models use parking sensors built into the bumpers and a rear-facing camera to help the driver get into a tight parking space. This system helps the driver park, but doesn't actually park the vehicle by itself.

However, the system described in this thread is an automated self-parking system similar to the one that Lexus uses.

What the hell is Volkswagen doing? In spite of the sales failure of the Phaeton, VW apparently has not learned the lesson that no one is going to buy an expensive luxury car with the VW badge on it. I keep on hearing stories that the Phaeton name is going to be resurrected on a vehicle sized and priced somewhere between the Passat and the Audi A8. However, the VW Group already has such a vehicle - the Audi A6! Enough of this cannibalism. Quit while you're ahead, boys!

Now they plan to introduce this low-roofed Passat called the CC. It's a very sleek-looking sedan. (It is NOT a coupe.) It's based on the Passat platform, so the engineering is sound. However, no person in his right mind is going to buy a car that he can't fit into, regardless of how pretty or otherwise desirable the vehicle is. I do not know how successful the Mercedes CLS has been in terms of sales, but apparently Daimler has sold enough of these cars for BMW and Audi to develop other low-roof luxury vehicles. Who would have thought that there are enough short people out there that are willing to pay a premium price for a vehicle only they can fit into?

As for the "self-parking" feature, VW should have learned the lesson learned by Lexus, i.e. this gizmo generated some initial showroom traffic but the public quickly lost interest. With (much less complex) parking sensors becoming more and more popular, the usefulness of "self-parking" has diminished.

Audi was right to make that commercial making fun of the self-parking feature. Audi decided a long time to go after the sporting segment of the luxury car market. Self-parking will appeal only to extremely feeble carbuyers who would probably not be interested in a sport/luxury car anyway.

Cmon, ThierryHenry14. I can understand Audi offering a parking system with sensors and backup camera on a supercar like the R8, which they do. But they would never put a self-parking feature on it -unless a lot of R8s are being bought by old ladies. (Not likely.)

Besides, if they put such a feature on the R8s sold in Germany, why wouldn't they offer it on cars sold in America?
