Hyundai Genesis Coupe pricing to start under $26,000

People used to laugh at this car when it was introduced a year ago, and now nobody is laughing.

Lessons well learned from Lexus, Hyundai will move upmarket and take away notable share of profit from the Japanese.

I don't. G37 is a rebadged economy car. Hyundai can easily built a better car for less money.

Any automaker can clone the shape of a car with simple Autocad and machining techniques, and we all know that Hyundai does that very well, the cloning factor that is. But to say that this clone will rival the G37 is a load of bullcrap. We are talking about the Skyline GTS people, don't forget that. Sure it can rival those of the American market (who can't) like the Mustang V6 or the upcoming Challenger V6, but don't insult the G like that man for I have mighty deboosting powers and I will use them.
I have to admit though, Hyundai has come up big time comparing it to previous years but performancewise it's got a long way to go to where it wants to be.

Yep. Saying they will "rival" G37 don't make sense. Maybe Nissan's Altima coupe and such but not Infiniti.

They need to stop badging their products Hyundai and start building a luxury brand as well if they wanna compete and get respect from the car enthusiasts.

Comparing this car with crappy V6 American sport car is just non-sense. Hyundai has Tiburon for that market. Just wait and see professional reviews. It's likely that it can't be a real match against G37, but being a luxury (as they claim) sports coupe under 30K market will give it a good chance. People buy G instead of 3-series to save a few grands. What Hyundai need to do is making a new luxury brand name and emblem like Japanese makers; it's hard to build a luxury image over Hyundai's poor reputation in old days while they still offer low 10k cars. Also Hyundai emblem is ugly and look like wannabe Honda.

This will definitely impact G37 sales - congrats Hyundai on a great design.

Guys, Hyundai still has a long way. They can't compete with Infiniti at all. Infiniti is a luxury brand in America. Hyundai has to compete with Nissan, Toyota and VW first then make their own luxury brand to compete with the respected brands such as Infiniti, Audi, Lexus..etc.

It looks like a nice car, but like others have said here, this car can not compete against the G37, it's in a totally different league. I feel it will do good against the Mustang, Altima Coupe, 350Z, and Challenger. Hyundai needs to compete against those and forget about trying to go after the G37 and 3 series.

The front of this looks like a Lexus IS. The rest looks like an Infiniti G37 except for that hideous scoop in the rear window. Well done Hyundai, you've managed to rip of the design of two other great vehicles.

This car is $4K too high and 400 lbs too heavy, it will sell but not great. The G37 has nothing to fear with this car.

I was thinking about it, and this car is a bit too expensive. $26K is too much for a coupe with only 212hp. The Honda Accord coupe with the 270hp V6 costs only $2,000 more.

wrong. Lexus LS400 when it was first introduced back in late 1989 was around 40 grands. After its initial introduction was over, the price hiked to mid 50k.

Well, if you have tracked the development of their concept HCD which affected the design of this genesis, you probably would not agree with that.

It might be an another helpful information that the HCD stands for the Hyundai California Design located in orange county.

In addition, there has been a global tendency that mass automobile manufacturers nowadays follow the trend instead of being solely "creative".
Unique design cueds are very little to be seen nowadays.

Look at the ford explorer adopting audi's single frame grille design identity.
Or would you say Buick enclave a Hyundai Santafe knock-off?

no the tiburons have never looked anything like a toyota especially the original, the 2nd generation had lines more like the ferrari 456 than anything japanese with wedge profile, and rear end shape...the supra not even close

I would LOVE to buy a Hyundai because of the good value they offer. But I will NEVER buy a Korean car as long as the Koreans continue their unfair trade practices against foreign automakers.

I spent 2 days driving around Korea last year and didn't see a SINGLE American car. Only a small handful of German cars and I don't even remember seeing any Japanese cars either for that matter.

Korea is like automotive hell. 99.9% of the cars on the road are either Korean or Chinese, and they all look the same - dull and boring - even their colors are dull (mostly black or white) - further adding to the bleakness of their automotive landscape.

The reason for this is that the Korean government (with Hyundai's enthusiastic "support" of course) has imposed stiff import duties against foreign cars, making them so expensive that they're effectively banned from Korea.

So I feel that buying a Hyundai is simply wrong. It's like playing right into the hands of the "bad" guy.

I wish more Americans realized this.
