Well, why would they put a V8 in it? The GS 460 has a V8. It's only obvious that a GS-F would have a V10+ or else a supercharged/turbocharged V8.

Lexus can easily bore out the current V8 or make new V8 with larger displacement. I highly doubt it will be a V10. V10 will be in the LF-A if it ever comes out.

It would make sense for the GS to carry a V-10. The IS-F competes against the BMW M3, so the GS-F would have to compete against the M5.

It could just as easily carry a turbo or supercharged V8. I'm not saying it WON'T have a V10, I was just inquiring as to the source of the first poster's prediction.

What are you guys smoking at Motor Authority? Lexus will not top million units worldwide in the next few years. You are talking a 500,000 unit increase in two or so years. Are you nuts! Not only is this not possible from a business sense, Lexus is a nothing outside of the US, Tawain, Japan, and South Korea. It cannot even crack 40,000 units in Europe. Million units in several years? I think the IS-F has already done pretty well. I just saw one on the road two days ago. Let me tell you, the IS-F is incredible in person. It has so much more detail than pictures of it let on.... It's truly a great looking vehicle. And it sounded great too. I wouldn't be surprised if the GS-F came out within the next five years.

I will be interested to see the GS-F...we'll see if Lexus can produce a viable M5/E63/RS6 competitor. I'm not going to say that the Lexus will or will not be superior because no real details have been released yet, but it will certainly face tough competition.

i doubt the GS-F will be coming out anytime soon. i believe it getting redesigned in 2010-2012 and that is when it will probably come out. No use putting a new engine etc etc on an alread 4 year old model

It will be good for Lexus to build a 1-series fighter, as I don't see many higher end car companies entering at that level.

They should wait on the next-generation GS for a GS-F. The new 5-Series/M5 and E AMG will be here shortly. I'm sure Lexus has already begun development of the next GS anyway, they should try and build a GS-F first and then dumb it down for the lesser models, like I believe the Germans do.

That first one wasn't really a reply to you, but anyway, Audi and Mercedes have been producing small compact cars for their home markets for a while now. The A2/A3 and A- and B-Class models are small 1-Series competitors. They just wont ship them to North America.

I doubt that lexus will ever build a 1 series fighter, becuase there simply is no need to do so, Toyota fills that gap!Remember that companies like BMW and other brands require these type of cars to boost sales and keep them from going into the red. With toyota they can afford not to let Lexus have a 1 series competitor, and besides there is a Toyota hatchback that competes directly with The VW GOLF/RABBIT. OPEL/OPC FOCUS ST etc..a segment that BMW has entered with the 1 series because it is very lucrative!

Just yesterday I was reading an article where lexus officials stated that they will simply not go into one series territory.

you're so smart! except that the 1-series a low-volume vehicle. and bmw is one of the most profitable auto companies on the planet. (ooops, guess you were WRONG)

so how do you explain the ES--just a rebadged camry (same chassis, powertrain, just some new leather and body panels)? it accounts for 25% of lexus sales. and the IS250 is 80%+ of IS sales--just an underpowered little car with a cramped interior and a new badge.

yeah...the germans are doing great in the budget segment: SL, S, CL, GL, G, E, CLK, AMG versions, 7-series, 6-series, M cars, 5-series, X6, X5, etc. etc.

meanwhile, lexus is dominating the upper end with the ES, IS and RX which total over 75% of sales.

I laughed when I read Kevin Flynn's statement regarding "exclusivity" and "volume" at Lexus. Who is he kidding? Toyota/Lexus is ALL about volume...it's their mantra. He is speaking through his ass, just like most of the executives at Toyota and Lexus. Several years ago during a new product launch I asked why Lexus did not have a performance division to rival BMW's M and Mercedes' AMG. I was told that Lexus would never offer such a division because it was too expensive and outside their target customer (i.e. the 50+ crowd). So how does Lexus explain the IS-F and any other forthcoming F badged cars?
BTW: I would counter that the BMW 1 Series is not a downmarket car in anyway, especially in the pricing of either model. Personally, I'd like to see a small, stylish, luxury/sport car for sale in the U.S. that is not German or Asian produced. Alfa-Romeo anyone?

GoObama08, I was referring to the 1 Series models offered in the U.S. market, which is where luxury brands are so concerned about their "image". If the U.S. decides to start taxing vehicles based on engine displacement, weight or emissions (as they do in other parts of the world), my guess is we'll see more choices. And no, I've never been to Europe before. Isn't that near China?

I'd be very interested to see an LS-F vs. S63AMG comparison if and when an LS-F comes out.

Whatever powerplant they use, I sure hope they move in a whole new direction than their current "L-Finesse" motif. The GS and IS which are to be the most sporting models currently look like they were squeezed out of a tube or out of something more anatomical. Let's hope they quite building these safe designs and incorporate a lot more tenacity in their future offerings.

Lexus never lets beancounter and marketing dept deadlines get in the way of PERFECTION. first time out.

Toyota having 1 series competitor is much better idea than Lexus having one. As it will give Toyota both 1 series competitor and those 'lost pure sports models'.

Lexus should make and fully concentrate on bigger and exclusive models like IS coupe/cabrio, RX, GS-F and LF-A.
