Here we go again. I'm surprised we didn't here that it broke the 6 minute barrier. Listen, I'm a huge fan of this vehicle, in fact, just by the stats alone its one of the best sports car that has ever been produced. However, the first times that we saw from the GT R were inaccurate so how reliable can these times be at this point.

I don't understand how the Porsche fanboys can deny this vehicle any longer. You should be excited for the GT-R as it will only force Porsche to improve...if they can ;)

We'll see with the release of the Turbo S later this year.

At that the GT2 already did a proven laptime of 7:32, not to mention the EDO GT2 which did a 7:15.

EDO is tuner, not MFR, therefore it doesn't mean much. Anyone can strip the interior and tune to 1000 hp.

And you know this prototype isn't because?

The EDO had only 520hp at that and is street legal.

The thing I like about the Japanese manufacturers is how they have changed the game. Left alone for the Germans, we would have been paying considerable amount of money for what we are paying for the Big German manufacturers.
They have forced the Germans to bring improvements at a relatively lower cost.

EL34, Datsun's Z-car actually had more fans back in days..believe it or not. I don't remember where I read it but Datsun outsold every other cars in its category back in the 70's. The Datsun/Nissan Z-clubs are still very active. Check out Z31.com and there are many old and young folks still waxing the crap out of these lovely Datsuns. Learning anything?

Seems like EL34 really loves to get a kick up his a**, that is why he shows up in every single blog and gets the bantering of every single autospies blogger. It's great fun reading my fellow autospies bloggers abusing this EL34 to dissipate some of the misery of everyday life and have a laugh. Really we are shameless.

That's really unbeleivable. Looks like this model (R35) will take GT-R name into next level. The top most level of cars.

The amazing thing about the GT-R is just how much you get for your buck...and how much more performance you can get for $XXX. Let's not underestimate what Nissan have done here. They are giving the sort of performance that was only available to the hypercar league barely 3 years ago - cars costing upwards of $400,000 in the US and much more elsewhere - and making it available for around USD $130,000 (I guess).

And for that, you get a car that has 4 seats (OK, maybe 2 are only for kids you want to suffer for a bit!), moderately acceptable luggage space, cna be driven in awful weather very safely and can actually be driven by unskilled drivers to a fair level and actually enjoyed by skilled drivers to a high degree.

It is wrong to compare this car to anything by Ferrari or Porsche or Lamborghini, because if you take into account raw performance, practicality and value for money, there is simply nothing on this planet that is even remotely near it.

What an awesome time lap, 7:25, i don't have to say anything to praise this magnificent piece of metal, when it can beat the Porsche Carrera GT lap time in the Nurburgring. The GTR is quickly establishing itself as the most important and breakthrough car of our decade.

Well, until a test is done, it's a bunch of hearsay. "Rumor has it" doesn't mean much. Anyone can be plugging the car. My biggest concern is reliability: I know the Porsche can run at limits without breaking down. Nissan doesn't have the reliability that Toyota, Honda or Subaru has as witnessed by Consumer Digest and JD Powers reports and owner's surveys. They are more prone to breakdown. If this car is engineered to perform at limit, it will have to do it without breaking down or the rep might be affected. Other than that, the performance is awesome, looks aren't much, kinda uninspired. As an aside, I know the owner of UTI who has an 02 VW Beetle with the HPA tuned engine and Audi TT frame/suspension/Quattro drive system and his 600 horsepower vehicle does 3.2 0 to 60 and had it at 'Ring pulling low 7:00's. I was a passenger in it and it could outperform an Enzo in acceleration (he raced it against Penske's Enzo and won). For less than $50k, you could drive a Beetle that would shame the Porsche Turbo or Nissan GTR. The looks on their faces would be worth it.

Another car that falls into these performance numbers is the Ford GT. It has a 3.3 0 to 60 time and has been timed at the 'Ring under 7:30. Ford is not accurate, or honest, in the horsepower numbers: Dyno test show over 600 horsepower. Guess insurance industry can affect power ratings.

Lastly, thank God for Renault of France, Nissan's parent company. If it wasn't for them, there would probably be no Nissan GTR. When Renault bought into Nissan in the '90's, Nissan was cash strapped from diminishing sales and recalls. At the time, their cars had aweful reliability, nearly killing Nissan (look it up). Since the influx of cash and quality control standards, Nissan has jumped back in the mix of cars to look at.

It's a cross holding, with Renault holding more of Nissan than Nissan of Renault.. Don;t forget that Renault now also has some access to some of that great Japanese engineering technology of Nissan..

I think Renault has failed in the past before with the French government helping it out.. it's sort of unfair in a free competitive world.
